Does anyone know exactly how many of these were made and if S&W is finished with their production of this model? Thanks in advance.

Over 5100 were made starting in 2005 and carrying on into 2006. MSRP was just over $1,000 at the time. Obviously nobody pays MSRP. The street price was quite reasonable considering the uniqueness, packaging and embellishment over the standard model 36 which had an MSRP somewhere in the upper $700s if my memory serves.

Thanks for that info, but what puzzles me is that there is one for sale on Gunbroker and the description says the serial number is 51XX. What gives?

For colt saa: And they're not going to make anymore, right? I'm trying to determine the collectibility of this model. I mean it's a beautiful piece, but it is a limited run, correct? Also, I don't want to question your integrity, but you're sure about the number produced? Did you just have a mental slip because the original MSRP you quoted was $1000 and you had 1's on the brain and that's why you put 1100 made, originally? As far as collectibility, the difference between 1100 and 5100 is big. Thanks.

If you are thinking about this purchase as an financial investment, then do not buy it unless the asking price is very, very cheap.

Commemorative firearms have a very poor track record of appreciating in value. On a firearm that was run three years ago, the value difference between manufacturing one thousand or five thousand is negligible. Fifty or a hundred years from now it will probably make more of a difference. I have never purchased a firearm with the thought that it was going to make me a profit. Buy a firearm because you enjoy it. Should the day come that you part with it and you end up selling it for more than you paid for it, just be happy about the transaction.

If collectiblity is what you are looking for, you need to find special run firearms. These usually appear in quantities of 100-350 and are made at the exclusive request of the larger distributors. They appreciate in value much faster than any commemorative.
And they're not going to make anymore, right?
S&W can not answer that question for you. If they get a million letters tomorrow asking for a re-run of the firearm it will occur. If they get a large distributor offering to front the costs of a re-run, it will occur.

Yes production started in 2005 and ran through 2006. This is not a cataloged item and this has not been shown by the Factory or any of the large distributors at the SHOT Show for two years that I am sure of, I can not really recall three and four years ago.

What is the exact number produced? You might call S&W and see if they know that information in the CS department and are willing to release it. Then you do not have to question my integrity. However yes, I had thousands on my mind at the moment.

Even though the one pictured is 07xx, the highest number that I have personally handled is 26xx. I have seen more than one offered for sale with numbers in excess of 5000.

There are many threads on this Forum discussing collecting and values and things like that. You might want to fiddle around with the Search function. It is a VERY useful research tool.

They must have them all in my area, You can't go into one of my shops without seeing at least one.I went into one of the shops last week, and they had three.

Smith & Wesson model 36 Texas Hold'Em special edition. These were manufactured in 2005. All of the revolvers serial numbers start with "TEX". It was shipped in French fitted glass top display case with the poker chips and playing cards. Mind is TEX11XX (never list whole ser #) Cost was about same for standard Mod 36, so I thought it a good deal.
