Text Message Scam FYI

Seems to be a lot of this going around lately--scams. In any event, a new one is texting you and it showing as your cell phone number saying your bill is paid with a link.

Please share within your network and with those who may be vulnerable. For example, my mother who is elderly does not answer calls from numbers she does not recognize; in this case, it would show as coming from her or be perceived to be from her provider acknowledging payment.

Further more.......

As a rule of thumb, if you are receiving a call with the same area code and three number prefix as your number, be cautious....

Example:
569-334-xxxx. and your number starts with 569-334 and unless you know the number - it's likely a scammer, let it go to v-mail.

If they do not leave a message, likely a scam.

If you do get a message, then it is likely someone who is calling your number because the scammers are using your number to make their outbound calls, that's happened to me a couple times.
