Welcome from Pennsylvania, Bill.....
The foundation for S&W information for the collector is "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 4th Edition" by Jim Supica and Richard Nahas.
That, coupled up with the knowledge generously offered by Forum members here, you will be well informed. You have a wealth of information here in Forum archives as well ... the "search" feature is outstanding. I am certain you will become comfortable here - enjoy your stay.

The SCSW4 has been referred to as the "Bible", but other books with great information are "The History of Smith & Wesson", by Roy Jinks, and "Smith & Wesson's 1857 to 1945" bu Jinks and Neal.

Welcome and enjoy a long informative hobby life with S&W's.

The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson is indeed a good book, and I have all four editions to date---it is THE book of the time. That said, my go to books are the other two mentioned. I suspect that has to do with my advanced age, and the looooooooong time I've been fooling with these things---not to mention the fact I neither know nor much care about any products produced after the mid 1950's----but that's more of a philosophical thing.

Old habits die hard!
