Every year around this time I think about my time in the Military, my friends, some of whom are no longer with us, my family, many of whom are no longer with us, and those that supported us through it all.

Tops among those in my thoughts are my Grandfather and Great Uncle who served during WW I, my Father and two Uncles who served during WWII, another Uncle who served during Korea, my good friend Jim who served with me during Viet Nam, my youngest brother Scott, and my cousin James who served in the Persian Gulf.

In the past few years I lost a close friend, Bill Galick, and my Brother in law, Jim Dowling, to the effects of Agent Orange.

Aside from the places I served, the people I served with are the source of my most sacred memories. Lastly, but certainly not least, my parents, brothers, sister, children, and my loving wife, who stood behind me and took care of my troops and their families where ever we were.

On the first of November, 1971, I went in with the intention of doing my 3 years and getting out. Four months short of 21 years I finally called it quits, as my unit in Korea was being deactivated and my troops moved to other units. They were no longer under my charge, so I hung up my hat and came home.

Today, our young men and women continue to volunteer, putting themselves in harms way on our behalf. To all who have served and continue to serve our country, let me express a heartfelt Thank You for your service. For the families left behind who support their Vets through thick and thin, a very big Thank You for your support.

Happy 241st Birthday to the Marine Corp, Semper Fi
