I think all juvenile jails should be turned over to and run by the ACLU. Another bunch of people with an agenda who don't care what happens as long as it stays with the agenda. Take a kid out of solitary and let him kill another kid and then they would raise hell about that. The ACLU blew through our juvenile facilities not long ago and one of the things they wanted was for the corrections officers to interact more with the inmates (that's what they are, just a little younger) and provide them with entertainment such as reading stories. I don't think reading nursery rhymes to killers and robbers would help very much. It's almost impossible to win against them because they can outfund you in any lawsuit.

Perhaps holding hands and singing kumaya before bed-time will help the little miscreants.

Some years ago when the ACLU was a moderate and less well defined group, who appeared to be truly interested in protecting the downtrodden, I supported them dollar wise. For years I received calls asking for money to help fund certain legal expenses. When I found out how much money was going to “overhead” I started to shy away from donating. When the ACLU became over impressed with itself and importance in the world I stopped donating altogether. Lots of worthwhile groups I would rather see my money go to.

I think they are correct-they ought to do away with solitary. Main reason is that it isn't cost efficient. Why you could fit 6-7 prisoners in one of those cells:D (damn-did I just say that out loud???)

I dont think solitary should be done away with. My reasoning stems from the fact that people I knew and or worked with--were murdered by a few of them and or raped a few female officers as a way to get more status within their gangs and other hoods they played with.

I was friends with Daniel Nagle--who was murdered by one of those punks back in December 1999-his wife was pregnant with the newest "loaf of bread" and he also had other children. Dan was one of those who are a rarity in the "business" who people could learn good things from-and was one who did his job they way it was supposed to do. I dont want to get into that more-but will end it at--I support not ending the use of isolation. I know--ive had loads of experiences dealing with the types who were in isolation for good reasons.

" The ACLU is off the chain"

Since when were they ever on the chain?

I know several married men that would welcome 30 days of solitary confinement with the peace and quite of it and no one yapping at them.

Well sure, you could put a dozen in each cell, but you'd only want to do that in the SUMMER!!
