I joined this great forum 5yrs ago when I needed info on a Performance Center 625-3. The info here and the knowledge is just outstanding. Needless to say, I've been hooked ever since. Well, my last one is the 19-4. Before that came a 60-4, 686-1, and 29-2. I used to just look at the modern polymers etc., but no more. Handling and shooting these revolvers are special. I think a vintage M27, or M28, with a 4" barrel will be my final purchase.

You said which one next. Are you asking for opinions?

In S&W revolvers, I think it’s just silly to not own these:

Model 10 with a 4-inch heavy barrel
Model 14 with a 6-inch barrel
Model 28-2 with a 4 or 6-inch barrel

I have two reasons. First is that all of these are fantastic shooters. The 14 is a legendary and sublime target revolver. The 10 has my favorite balance, feel and trigger geometry. And the 28-2 is a monstrous beast that will take anything you wanna give it.

My second reason is that because these models were so good at what they did, everyone wanted them, everyone bought them and because they made SO MANY, they typically don’t command huge “collector values” making their value as a shooter even better.

Final? You know you really meant to type next, right?

My first S&W revolver was my dad's former duty gun, a 4" 686-2 which I got from him in late 1998. Not long after, I bought a 6" Model 629, but sold it a year or so later. Eventually, I bought a 638, but sold it to my former FIL.

Then, I bought a satin nickel Model 38 in 2019 or 2020 and a 2" 10-5 in 2022. Those and the 686 were all I had until the S&W wheel gun bug bit me hard in January 2023.

I now own 31 S&W revolvers. I've picked up no less than four in the last 12 days (6" Model 14-2, 4" M&P .38 1905 4th Change, 42, and 4" 27). I've bought one more, a 3" 696 no dash, but traded it off for a 4" Model 18 and some cash. So, yeah, I've bought 29 S&W revolvers in 13 months.

He did say "final purchase", ;) (LOL) what a rookie! We've all said that, even believing we meant it a time or two. (hee hee) I've gone as far as telling my wife that! (she rolled her eyes too)

You can tell yourself it's "the last gun I'm gonna buy" all you want. Nobody here believes you.........

But either way, you gots to get a Highway Patrolman for sure. And a model 10, oh yeah you have to have a model 66 for sure, at least a 4" and preferably a snubby to go with it.

There's so many more I can list (many of which I don't have yet), but I'm only on a "temporary buying ban"........ self imposed as a New Year's resolution to not buy anymore until I have at least fired the ones that I own now.

(I'm struggling with this every day) Best of luck to you honu8019!

The only answer I can give you as what to buy next is whatever you don't have one of yet! Fear and poverty are the only reasons for not buying more! It all depends on what you intend, or desire, to do with the gun.

Personally the reason I have bought most of my guns is because something appealed to me when I either read about a particular model or saw in at the store. The last is why I own a 7 1/2" Colt Officers Model Target! It is the only one I ever saw or even knew they were made in that barrel length!

If it's truly final, in order of importance:

57
25
41

If it's not "final", you need all 3.

A model 27, 3 1/2". Sadly we will need a change of government before that happens in the land of ice and snow (Canada).
