The car you wish you still had.

When we left the U.S. in 1956 Dad sold his yellow Ford Convertible. (I think it was a '49.)
I've often wished he'd stored it and we still had it in the family.

My wife and I had a Ford Fairlane with "three on the tree" and a foot high beam switch when we were first married. We traded it back to her father for his 1968 Galaxie after a year or so. I have since wished I'd hung onto one of those and had it restored.
The Fairlane would be a fun summer car now.

The '68 was a workhorse with a small V8. My brother and another guy ran it after we did and the frame was what went bad, not the motor or drivetrain.

My late father-in-law was a mechanic so the cars we got from him were in great shape.

Two cars:

A 1965 Pontiac Tempest LeMans, silver-gold 4 door with a 326 V8 and two-speed Powerglide that my parents owned in the mid-late 60s. It was a great car, excellent pep, and 22-25 MPG on a trip. Black interior and no A/C, but a great car.

Not exactly like my folks' LeMans, but you get the idea:

The other vehicle is my first car, a 1966 Volvo 122 gray 4-door. I bought it with 130K miles in 1975 and sold it in 1989 with almost 330K on the clock. I wish I could use the way-back machine and buy a brand-new one with a 3.31 rear end instead of the factory 4.31 rear. The 4.31 rear make the engine do about 3200 at 60 mph. A few years after I bought the 122 I changed the rear end out for a 3.31 rear from a foreign car salvage yard. That cut the revs by about 900 - 1000 rpm and took mileage from 20-22 to 30 mpg. Ran it over 10 years with that lower numerical rear. No shortage of get-up-and-go either, because it was a 4 speed without O/D. My wife hated the car, but I loved it. ALWAYS started in the winter, even in the -25F to -35F winter of '76-'77. Being gray in color and funky-looking, the 122 and my tendency to not be shy about asking questions landed me my first serious nickname at my first job out of college -- "Columbo."

Not mine, and it's a two-door 122, but you get the idea:

55 Chevrolet 210 2 door, 57 Chevrolet Pick Up, 63 Chevrolet Nova, 67 Pontiac Lemans, 68 Pontiac Firebird 400, and 71 Dodge Demon 340. I miss the Firebird most of all. Not only was it the fastest, but it was very fun to drive. Factory purple with a black interior and black stripes. Hurst 4 speed close ratio shifter and Muncie transmission. Also had some fun foreign cars, Volkswagen Karman Ghia, Datsun 280Z, and Mazda RX7.

There were some good Chevy's in my life.

But I'm finding it really hard to brag on them since GM chose to choke the life out of my employer of 14 years and leave him bankrupt.
