Tried to view "The Christmas Story" on TV Christmas Day but could not find it on any of the channels. "Ralphy" and I both went though similar trials to get our Daisy Red Ryder Range Special BB Gun. I didn't get mine until my Father returned home after WWII.

I remember shooting my BB gun when I was a kid at the river and the BB hit a rock and bounced back and hit the top edge of my bottom eye lid. Maybe missed my eyeball by a 1/4" and put a red welt on the eye lid, and the gun wasn't a Red Ryder it was a pump up Crossman 760, they were fairly powerful.

Geez! That's scary! Reminds me of my old ophthalmologist that saved my left eye from a childhood injury. She was my "eye doctor" until she retired, and she was quite a lady. As I grew older, she was aware I was interested in guns, shooting, and hunting. When my children arrived she took the time to lecture me about BB-guns, which, based on her professional duties, she had come to especially despise. She encouraged me to forego the BB-guns and to teach my children to shoot with a .22 instead. I did.

I never asked her how many BB-gun injuries she had treated. She was not one to "discuss" her opinions - just told you what they were and done! I will always remember her. ;) :)

Jimmy, to answer your question about finding A Christmas Story, TBS out of Atlanta, runs a 24 hour marathon of the movie every Christmas. But if you don't have cable, DISH, or Direct TV, service, can't advise any further.
I was not allowed to have a BB gun as a child. My Dad said NO, too much chance of trouble with neighbors kids. Did get a .22, rifle and pistol, at 16 if I remember right.
My mother bought me ( my money though) a .243 Remington 700 ADL at 13 for my first deer hunt. Was successful, still have the horns, mounted European style, though with the hair on the skull top.
