Howdy!

Hope this isn't too dumb of a question. Go easy on me if it is, it's been a long week. :)

If you visit the S&W website (or Gun Genie, Gunbroker, etc.) you will find three distinct item numbers for an M&P Sport:

811036, capacity = "30 round detachable magazine"

811037, capacity = "10 rounds"

811038, capacity = "10-round fixed magazine"

I understand the fact Cali and some other locales limit you to 10 rounds, but I'm trying to sort out the difference between 811037 and 811038 models...specifically the stated capacity of "10 rounds" vs. a "10-round fixed magazine".

Does this mean that with 037, you only get a 10 round mag in the box, but you can put in your own 20 or 30 round mags in it based on your local laws? Or do the 037 and 038 both have the bullet button and you are limited to using the 10 round mags unless you get some smithing done?

Any insight is appreciated -- thanks in advance!

I notice the 037 you speak of has the older rear sights as opposed to the Magpul MBUS. As for Bullet Button, the 037 description did not list it in the features.

Hey, thanks for catching that!

The reason I asked about this is I may be able to get an 037 locally, but I don't want to be limited to 10 rounds. (Indiana allows >10 round mags) Just don't want to spend $600 and say "oops" when I get it to the range.

Okay, heres what I found. The 037 has a detachable 10-rounder, no BB, but has a fixed stock. Oddly enough, it shows a telescoping buttstock but is described as fixed. S&W site shows same thing. Im not sure if the MBUS comes on the model or not, but its an easy swap. So, no BB as far as I have found. Good luck.

Wow, you may need to change your name to "nicemrmustard" after this thread. ;)

Seriously, thanks for the feedback.

I assume I could swap an aftermarket adjustable stock on that if I chose?

If it's legal in your area.

I'm in MA and have the -37 model. My model came with detachable 10-rounder, no bayonet lug, fixed "fake" collapsible stock and a non-threaded blank barrel end.

But, i can use 30 rounders in MA if they are pre-1994

Happily Indiana is very gun friendly!

Ouch on the -37. So no suppressor on the end?

RE: the bayonet lug, if it gets that bad, I'm reading for my Mosin. :)

Why bother with a Compliant model? You can get the standard version for $620 all day long, with occasional sale prices of $600. Don't save a few bucks just to be disappointed with your purchase.

+1. Unless there is a SIGNIFICANT price reduction from your LGS, you'd be wise to get the run of the mill Sport. IDK if you have one nearby, but Cabelas is having their Christmas sales...Sports for $599 with 30 round Pmag. You prolly will end up wanting more bang for the buck later, I know I would.

Dragon88 and meanmrmustard, I think you are right.

LGS has the 037 for $575, plus Indiana tax (7%) meaning a final price of ~ $620. Don't think that price trumps the missing options.

A couple of hours to the nearest Cabelas, however. May need to make the road trip, however.

Thanks for all the insights, all!

Agreed. The price difference is not worth it.

BTW...just a tidbit of info on the 037 model.

036-standard model Sport
037-compliant with states prohibiting folding and/or telescoping butt stocks and suppressors (I.e. Massachusetts)
038-"California" compliant with ten round max cap and bullet button.

There ya go!

Nope...no threading on end, and no bayo lug

(and this is the mag it ships with)

If it comes down to hand to hand, i've got a Mosin too. :)
