I have read the second book about Delf "Jelly" Bryce by mr Conti
Thank You sir.

And what a book...

I first made really bad decision by bringing the book with me to work
thinking i could start reading it at a coffee break... almost got me fired :o
I could not stop reading it... the phone snapped me back to reallity "where the **** are you?
You need to get back to work.. like RIGHT NOW!"

Fascinating story about a really fascinating man.

The book got me hooked from the first page to the last.
Written in a way that made me feel like i'm right by his side,
fighting gangsters and dodging bullets.

My next door neighbor retired from the bureau and was on about the same time as this guy. I'll ask him about him. Never heard of him. I thought he sounded like an African-American bluesman.

When I hear 'retired FBI' I always think of my old buddy Tom Smith.
I might say 'Tom Smith? Is that your real name?'
' I have used that name to check into motels.'
Tom would discuss lots of things, like the Rosenburgs.
The one thing he would not discuss was J Edgar Hoover's personal life.

I've read the two books on Delf Bryce written by Ron Owens. Owens is or was with the Oklahoma City Police Department and writes extensively about the years Bryce spent with the OKCPD prior to his years with the FBI. Bryce was definitely an interesting character. I'll have to get these books by Conti.

If I remember correctly, Mike was on here when he first started the project and got some static because of it being historical fiction. Many of the members here were aware of Delf Bryce and his accomplishments and were of the opinion that a fiction work was not needed.

I'm glad you liked it. I hope he does well with it and maybe a movie will come. A new story at the theaters would be welcome.

I too have just finished reading "FBI Odyssey" by Mike Conti.....Thanks Mike. I will post a glowing review with Amazon this evening.

An aside, If Hoover was given RM No. 1 and Tolson was given RM No. 2, what are the chances that the heirs of Tolson have or know where RMs No. 1 and 2 are at the present? .............

Hoover was presented Reg#1 with 8 3/4" (not 8 3/8) bbl. Phil Sharpe was presented Reg #2 8 3/4" bbl, and I forget where #3 went but it was not to Delf Bryce.

I have seen pictures of #1 and handled #2 at a S&WCA meeting. IIRC it won a medal at an NRA show when it was in the late Ray Cheely's collection.

Thank you, Sir! I greatly enjoyed reading your review on Amazon. Your description of my portrayal of Edgar Hoover was spot on as far as what I was trying to do--neither denigrate nor glorify him.

Like most of us, Hoover was a complicated person. I did a lot of research into his life and the lives of all those portrayed in the Jelly Bryce novels in an effort to draw them as real people. The vast majority of detail in the novels is based on fact. These were fascinating people living in challenging times.

Why disrupt a good story with facts :p
It is a novell you know :D

The third and final installment is underway and I expect it will be released in the summer or fall of 2016.

Barring anything unanticipated occurring--life happens--this project will be completed on time and to the best of my abilities. :)

Sounds good, but are all books written? I started reading a 'trilogy' one time but the collaborators had a falling out and never put the third volume out.:(:(:(

They look like this:

From
The First .357 Magnum. Smith & Wesson's Registered Magnum Revolvers of 1935-39.

From Larry Wack's site: "According to Smith/Wesson records, the Director's Registered .357 Magnum, is described as: Serial 45768 Reg. No. 1, shipped from the Smith factory and delivered to J. Edgar Hoover in April, 1935. Records reveal it was shipped with 8.75 inch barrel, equipped with a 1/10 inch Patridge front sight, blue finish, checkered walnut grips, with grip adapter attached."

Doh!

I knew the early RMs were equipped with up to 8 3/4" barrels but the later 8 3/8" length got stuck in my brain pan as I was writing.

I stand corrected, thank you S&W ucla. While it doesn't affect the story it will be corrected in future editions of the book just because it should be. Some might say it's only 3/8" off, but coming from a long line of carpenters as well as being a life-long gun guy AND a former detective it irks me that I missed that. I don't like to miss things.

As to Tolson getting RM#2 and Jelly getting RM#3, I had them getting the second and third RMs that Hoover requested from SW, not necessarily the #2 and #3, though I do understand why it would be logical to make that assumption based on the way it's written.

Attached pics show Jelly Bryce holding his RM.

Regards
