The importance of load development

Working on my .22 Hornet, I thought I would show how load development is important. Here are three loads, all using the Nosler 40 grain Ballistic Tip, 2400 powder, and CCI small pistol primers. These three loads show the subtle differences in the small amounts of powder. Working on a few more tweaks before I decide on "the" load.

David; That target on the right...those three shots side by side....the horizontal string is "sighting error". Eliminate the sighting error, and that is three shots in one hole!!!!! "That" is an accurate load!!!!!

This isn't the load I actually use, but it does show what a cheap bullet at 100 yards can do with Lil'Gun in a Hornet. I used a CCI 400 primer with this load.

The Hornet is the only thing I use Lil'Gun in, but it shines in this application. The brass is R-P that was neck sized in a Lee collet die, which gives much longer brass life. I don't think you can get that much Lil'Gun in W-W brass.

BTW, that's 13.0 gr, not g.

Play a little with seating depth, and you will be in one hole. Sometimes just .005" difference in seating depth will shrink groups considerably.
