In addition to the great 1948 movie, there was a four season TV show.

I remember it in syndication when I was a kid, but haven't seen it in a long time.

It's available in streaming format for those interested. Filmrise owns the streaming rights. That comes with my cable TV service. I imagine it's available directly, but haven't looked.

It's also available for "free" from Tubi. Tubi includes commercials, but they don't conform with the original breaks from broadcast TV. As a result, the commercials sometimes cut the show in the middle of a scene.

Oh, forgot to mention. Lots of gun play, so there are lots of shots of revolvers and the occasional semi auto. Plus Tommy guns and even one show with Sten guns.

I love anthology shows......

'Naked City' is almost an anthology show. Except for the police, the entire story is told from the characters viewpoint. One of my favorites was 'Dust Devil on a Quiet Street' with Robert Walker as a talented but unstable actor who desparatly wants to take lessons from a famous acting teacher (Richard Baseheart). There was some amazing talent on TV in those days.

Starting in the early 1950s some big name movie stars moved over to TV shows.

John McIntyre, who starred in the first half of the first season was a well established character actor/second banana. He had a couple of major roles in movies and worked constantly.

He quit the show because he didn't want to work in New York City and wanted to go back to his ranch in Montana.

Can't say I blame him for that.

His big TV roles were on Wagon Train (replacing the deceased Ward Bond), and The Virginian (replacing Lee J. Cobb).

He was okay in The Naked City, but Barry Fitzgerald was a hard act to follow in the movie.
