Some time ago I brought up the bikers wave thing. On my way home from work, on my bike, I passed another one so I put my hand down with the index finger and wondering if he would give the wave back, you never know. Well, did I get a surprise! The dude stuck his leg out at me!! I about laughed my butt off! I still think it's funny. Don't know if he could not let go of the handle bars for some reason but still, just when you think you've seen it all.....

Can't decide if this is something I want to start doing or not, who knows, maybe 4 years from now it will spread all over the country.

Just thought I'd share this little bit of useless info to who ever happens to wonder what the new bikers wave is.

I haven't had one like that when I'm riding. I don't like the idea of sticking my leg out. It would be unpleasant if it caught on something.

Been rideing street since 1970 and cant say I ever seen that one. I have resurrected the old raised clenched fist "similar to the black panther salute" wave here lately. Have gotten a few odd looks.

I've seen that recently, too. The bikes have really been out the last couple of weeks.

While we're talking about bikes, can anyone tell me why a rider would pass a semi riding about a foot from the center (dotted white) line? He couldn't have been more than three feet from my truck, and had 10 feet of empty lane to his left. I haven't ridden in a while, but it seems like the turbulence would be worse right next to the truck.

Inexperience.

The only time you get near a Semi is to tuck right up in his draft on a very cold day, and only if he gives you the OK first.

As for the clench fist wave I always figured it was a Harley thing so they would not drop thier tools when waving.

Riding 100-200 feet behind a big rig has it many turbilant moments as well, I hate it. Joe.

I'm talking more like 25-50 feet behind. Yes it's very dangerous especially if the truck driver does not know you are there. But when the temperature is below freezing it may be something to consider. Make sure you have the permission of the truck driver so he can give you fair warning of any road hazards, and pop around to his mirrors every few miles to give him a wave.

I don't know about all states but in the motorcycle safety course here it says to wave with left hand to folks on the left but to use your right leg if they are on the right. I haven't done it, I just nod or extend a few fingers on my right hand if they are actually looking at me. If I let go of the throttle on my bike at speed, it's feels like locking up the brakes in a car, very quick deceleration.

I went riding Sat and Sun and ran into more bikers on the road than I've seen in a while. Almost all exchanged waves.
