Now that the re-introduced brown
uniform is being worn more and more--
officers at the West Point graduation,
Gen. Milley at the Pentagon, at the
State of the Union address--how does
anyone like it or dislike it?

For my part, I was in the "Green Army"
and black shoe/boots days, I still rather
like the greens. Not sure I can warm
up to the browns.

All the folks that wore/wear the spartan Air Force blues voted that all the other branches won the uniform contest.

Obviously you are forgetting the Coast Guard transition from the traditional sailor's uniform to the "Bender Blues" in 1974. We went from being asked "What country are you from?" when we wore our flat hat to being asked "What time does the bus stop here?"

Give me the bell bottom dungrees and chambray shirt or the tropical white dress any day. I'd even take the 13 button fly and jumper on the Navy wool class A over the Bender blues!

I think it was back around the early 1990s the USAF adopted a new officers uniform (I think it was only for officers, called the McPeak uniform) that was very unpopular, as it looked much like an airline pilot's uniform. For some period of time it was optional, but so few opted for it, it was dropped after a couple of years. Merrill McPeak was the USAF Chief of Staff at the time, and was sort of a strange duck. I met him a couple of times. Anytime he signed his name, he would put four stars after it.

I would just like to have the money spent on the uniform changes every time a general gets a hair to change. the military shouldn't try to make a fashion statement which they usually fail at anyway

I think the new/old uniform looks great, except for that service cap with the “50 mission crush”. I think it looks sloppy with a service uniform.

^^^ 100%.

When I was stationed at Devens there were guys that had been at Natick Labs testing new designs for fatigues/BDU’s. Trying to design a work uniform that’s more durable, keeps you cooler in summer, warmer in the winter, etc. Better boots too. It makes total sense to spend money on that.

The whole lets spend a ton of money on new dress uniforms, not so much.

From Army postings on the new uniform,
it seems they cost more per ensemble than
the "blues" but supposedly are more durable
and comfortable.

But as I see it, the uniform also gives an image
of pride in one's service branch and that goes
a long way too. If that is achieved with the
new dress uniforms, so be it.

In the scheme of things, uniforms are a minor
cost compared to so much other stuff related
to the militaries.

As to fatigues, very practical but then everyone
no matter the service looks pretty much the
same: Rumpled beds
