i haven't been online here for almost a month so excuse me if this has already been discussed here.

the past week or so i've had a few pop up prompts for the "new microsoft edge download windows 10".
i'm always leery of anything new microsoft tries to force on me and so far i've passed on accepting the new download but eventually i know i won't have a choice.
my main concern in accepting it early is there might be bugs that they haven't worked out yet and i don't want to be their guinea pig so i'd rather hold off for now.

what i'm wondering about is has anybody here accepted the dl and have there been any problems with it afterwards?

I did and had to go thru the motions of stopping them not tracking everything I do. What's really ticking me off is you cannot stop auto play of videos on this one. You have to go on each web page you visit and turn it off but that really doesn't work that well.

I updated MS Edge with the Beta version (less updates than the other two choices). My internet seems to be 10x faster than IE.

I tried it, my 6 yr old printer wouldn't work, got rid of the windows and went back to reg windows 10

I have it on my gaming computer, and haven’t noticed any difference.

Vortex and Steam still work fine and my downloads and mods still work, so I’m OK with it.

Around 10 days ago my PC went into auto update mode when I restarted it and I couldn't stop it so basically I was forced to take this new update.
The only improvement is it is faster but that's where it ends.

The bad..
I have hundreds of saved favorites and in the past if I clicked on one then later went back to click on the following one the list was in place where I left off. Now it goes back to the beginning forcing me to scroll through the whole list again to search for the next one in line which is very aggravating!

The worse..
Previously I could stream several videos in multiple tabs and switch between them with no problem. Now streams time out and freeze whether I'm streaming one or more vids. When they unfreeze It's skipped past the frozen moments so I missed the content in between then seconds later it freezes again.

I figure there will eventually be another update to rectify the freezing but in the meantime I'm once again reminded why I haven't liked microsoft since the old xp days.

Microsoft's attempts to build browsers have got so bad that most companies I know do everything in Chrome these days. I am told that even .gov has given up on Edge.

I recently downloaded and installed a Win 10 update which I guess included Edge.
I don’t use Edge, I recommend as a bunch of us have in the past,
Don’t Use Edge!
I use Foxfire on my desktop Win Computer.

Same with me, apparently got Edge into my computer as part of a Windows 10 update. I haven't used it. I am a long-time user of Opera as my favorite browser, although I also have Firefox, Chrome, and now Edge, loaded as standbys. Occasionally I will find a website that will not respond to Opera and I need to use another browser. Wells Fargo will not allow me access to their site on Opera, but works OK with Chrome.

I use Firefox and somehow Edge downloaded itself in a Mircrosoft update and it became my default browzer and it screwed up a bunch of things that took me some time to get Firefox back and everything fixed and back to normal. The IT guy that works on my computers says to stay away from Edge.

I use Pale Moon, which originally was based on Firefox for most of my browsing. I use Firefox for work related stuff so that they two have completely different bookmarks.

I never liked Explorer and way back started using Netscape because it was so much better. At that time, MS had 95% of the browser market even though Explorer was junk.

Now, I can't imagine that MS has more than a small piece of the browser market.

I don't like Chrome because of Google's history of sucking up all of your browsing history.

I've used Brave on my phone, but I never liked it on my Windows based computers. I keep trying it periodically, but find it less configurable in Windows that on an Android.

I have Vivaldi and Firefox and Safari on my iMac. I use Firefox almost exclusively. I will rarely use Vivaldi. I have in he past used Opera and just couldn't quite get the hang of it and could not get it to stop auto loading every time I restarted my machine. so I dumped it and now Vivaldi will do it occasionally. However I haven't dumped it yet since I will occasionally use it.

^ Same here, like a fool i use gmail but i don't trust chrome even though they're both probably equally bad when it comes to snooping on you. Actually microsoft is snooping too as is almost everyone else on the internet.
My pc came loaded with the original version of edge before the update i brought up in the beginning of this thread so even though i hate it i use it around 50% of the time. The other 50% i use firefox.

Tor and Firefox have the reputation for being the safest, most secure, and private browsers. Edge is considered the worst for security and privacy. Chrome is iffy in the middle. For searching, my default search engine is (and has been for many years) DuckDuckGo which claims to never track search requests.

We tried it but found it very aggravating and strange. I don't know what the opposite of "user friendly" is but for me it's Microsoft Edge. I went back to Firefox where I belong.

And yet, every time I fire up my laptop the first thing I have to do is delete that pop up trying to get me to use it. I can't seen how to prevent it from popping up but it seems like a very aggressive effort to get me to take it and keep that pop up in my face. I realize that they don't know/care that I will never ever use it again and that all it does is irritate me no end.

I see if they post it up a few times but at some point understand I don't want it and back off. Seems like a counter productive sales technique to me, but what do I know....

The new MS Edge browser is built on Chromium, the same source code as Google's Chrome browser. I have both installed and pretty much stick to Chrome through habit but from what I've experienced with Edge I can say that it looks, feels, and acts just like Chrome - which is to say it works very well.

I just did a few internet speed tests, and both Chrome and Edge are within 5Mb/sec of each other (around 170Mb/sec) as reported by SpeedTest.org using the same server. As a control, using SpeedTest without a browser yields 200Mb/sec (via the dedicated app).

In comparison, the original Internet Explorer (which I still have loaded on my PC) yields only 70Mb/sec.
