“The Pacific” miniseries coming to Netflix this Friday

The PTO analogue to "Band of Brothers", Stephan Ambrose's story of Easy Company is coming to Netflix this Friday. It's been around since 2010, but I never heard of it until recently. Has anyone seen it yet? I'm looking forward to it and hoping it's on par with BoB.

It is, IMO, very good and accurate. Just as the ETO was vastly different from the PTO, so is the series.

Agree. I like it as well as BoB, maybe better. Not so much a single group of stories, more individual. Shows how much more "savage" the Pacific battles were.

I have the series on DVD and just watched it again last weekend. The series is done just as well as Band of Brothers but it is different. The Pacific Theater was a completely different hell hole than the European Theater and the series does a tremendous job of conveying that feel. The focus is just on a couple characters instead of a whole unit. The series followed the writings of Eugene Sledge's "With The Old Breed" and Robert Leckie's "Helmet For My Pillow". EXCELLENT

Good series but as others have written its not as good as Band of Brothers.

I bought the DVDs years ago when they first became available. One of the things I thought the series did well is depict the struggle to keep one's sense of humanity when immersed, seemingly endlessly, in the unrelenting hell and terror of combat.

When I heard of it way back i bought a copy of the 6 disks, as well as vhs copys of BOB. I also found copys of the books which inspired the Pacific, "In with the Old Breed", and "Helmet for My Pillow."My favorite line is when on Guadalcanal, the battalion commander addresses his troops describing how the Japanese refereed to Marines as murderers and escapees from insane asylums. A large cheer arose from the troops.

Another great collection of shorts from HBO is "Vietnam War Stories."
