A local gunsmith (The Gunocologist, no I'm not kidding

.) I have done business with called yesterday.
He knows how wacky about Smiths I am and wanted to give me first shot at a 686 he personally owns before he offered
it for sale in his shop. Man, I love those kind of phone calls!

It's a 686 no dash ,AEZxxxx ser.# 2 1/2in. ,when I saw the fingergroove combats I couldn't resist.
It's had a complete action job including springs ,for an awesome d.a. trigger.

I traded a Pro tech TR-1 knife ,an OMC 380 backup, and $362. cash for a total trade value of $575.00

First impression is ,short and Heavy, this is one snubby chunk of stainless. I shoot it tomorrow at my weekly trip to the range

Page 270 of the S.C.S.W. shows this as the "Model 686 Compact 1984 Limited Edition". 2500 made for Lew Horton
in 1984.

Don't have the ability to post pics but I have a 686M 4" that I absolutely love. It has recently replaced my 629 Mountian Revolver as my go to gun.

What a beauty. I got one just like it EXCEPT my has the ugly rubber grips. Love those grips! You done good!

I bought a used 686-1 4" 2 weeks ago. It had N-frame rubber grips on it, but it still works fine. I put Hogue monogrip on it. The gun shoots very well and makes me look good.

We like it~~!!

Have fun at the range...I'll catch up with you guys soon.

One of the biggest mistakes I ever made (and I've made a few) was letting a nickel 586 with factory combat grips get away. Had the absolute sweetest trigger I've ever felt.

Now I must go cry.

I believe that you have a Lew Horton 686....The first of the short L frames. I have one from the same time period, but somewhere along the line the fingergroove combats disappeared. It wears Hogue pau ferro's now. The accuracy of that little gun will startle you. I once dispatched a skunk at a good 120 yards with mine. Took three shots to get the elevation right, but I got the little bugger.

Rugskipper ,I believe you're right. The 2.5" barrel wasn't introduced until 1990. The ser.# places this around 1984. Thanks for the heads up.

Toadshoney ,welcome to the forum!~ I'm honored to have your first post on this thread I started.

George ,one day you gotta slow down ,and smell the gunpowder. Ha! Life's too short to work every Saturday.

Firedog ,I hope another comes your way soon ,good luck.

Mickey ,always good to hear from you ,I can smell the cigar smoke on the air .....
