Made a few phone calls this morning, and I only found one shop that had any pistol powder. I made a few stops, and could find nothing of interest.
Then I stumbled on this hoard! They were selling all the supplies, and equipment for the widow of a close friend, who had passed away. They had a cooler full of powder cans, and I got to pick through it.
Scored 2 cans of W231, 2 cans of IMR 700-X, a can of W296, a bottle of Accurate #7, and a can of IMR 4227.
I can now load 9mm, 38 Special, 357 Magnum, and 45ACP!!

Now, don't anyone spit on their keyboard, but I paid a $100 bill for all 7 cans!

WooHoo!!!!!!

Sweet score.
I've been loading .38 and .357 range ammo with Red Dot lately, because it's so much easier to find than Bullseye.
I scored a bottle of RD and 300-MP the other day.
The 300-MP is a newer magnum pistol powder from Alliant and is suitable for screaming loads for my .357s and .44s.
Probably also for Ruger Only loads for .45 Colt.
Will find out.

Now, if only I could score some more BE and Unique.

I think I'll buy all the SR4756 I can find, since it's my favorite .44 Spl powder. It should also be a good one for .45 Colt.

I'm sure you made a great buy there! I encourage you to be a little cautious with the powder. Compare its appearance to some you have. Make a few test cartridges and fire them(and chrono)to be sure you've got what you think. I say this because we had a situation in my area where a guy had mixed powders in his cans.

Never underestimate stupid!

Good job!
Gunbot paid off for me a couple of weeks ago. I bought 4 one pound bottles of Bullseye and 4 one pound bottles of Unique. When it arrived I sold two bottles of Unique for $30 each to help offset my hazmat fees. The guy was glad to pay that. With what I've gotten lately I should be good for a few years.

I'm over at my daughter's place in the SEATTLE area and have had lots of time to peruse my usual websites for primers, powder, moulds and the like. I hate to add fuel to any existing fires, but I'm not finding much by way of powders or primers at any of the usual sites. From what I can see, if you find a powder or primer that you use at a LGS, buy it, or face doing without when you need it.

4 of the cans are still sealed. I will compare powder types to make sure they are correct for the label. This man had over 25 cans of powder. I doubt(hopefully) he would refill cans.
Thank you for putting that idea out there.

I was talking to the manager of my range/gun shop. He said he would love to stock reloading supplies but he can't order anything wholesale, he said he can order it for the same price (and availability) as retail customers. Primers are available (see the other post in this section about primers). Powder is the real problem. I just bought 4# of IMR4756 last Tuesday for a friend from Recobs supply. (there are a few of us keeping an eye out for powder that the others are looking for). I'm in pretty good shape at the moment but others aren't so fortunate. Trick with powder is you have to look often and buy it as soon as it appears because it doesn't last long.

It has been a while since Winchester used the metal cans on 231 and 296, I always preferred them, and I transfer powder from the 4 and 8 pound jugs to my old cans for topping off the powder measure. I still have a can of 4227 that says DuPont on it! I was cleaning out my barn and in an old powder locker I found a 12 pound keg of ww231 I had forgot all about. I checked it against an 8 pound keg I bought 16 months ago, and it is fine. So don't worry about your powder's age. Ivan

I'm jealous, wish I'd find an old keg of powder. Probably won't happen to me though. I do have some of those old Winchester cans. :D

7 lbs for $100--a good deal. I wouldn't expect you to have any issues with the sealed cans. If the others have been properly maintained, they too should be okay. When powder starts to break down it gets a smell-use the sniff test.

I'm skiddish to buy any powder from a person, except my dad. You never know what's in those cans/jars/bottles. They should come up with a better way to determine if they have been opened.

However, good find! Hope it works out for you.

I'm still shooting H-4831 surplus from WWII which I bought in 1967. ($29.95 for 50 lbs shipped from Alabama to my door in Illinois.) I guess we have had some price increases in product and shipping since then!

Nine Mile Falls? By Spokane? Black Sheep in Coeur d'Alene last week had their shelves full of powder, primers, and bullets. It has been that way for a long time so it might be worth the drive if you are home in Spokane.:)

I tried a new lgs today....

I was surprised that they stocked any reloading supplies, but they did have a couple of small shelves with some rifle powders. It looked like even if they were fully stocked they still wouldn't have anything.

I, found a friend, with, win.452aa powder, I guess I better get it, he, want 20., a 1lb, smells good.thanks.

Wow I couldn't imagine having 50 lbs. That's a fortune now-a-days.

Outstanding score and for a good price. That should hold you over for the summer unless you shoot a lot.

I'm going to have to take a picture that will blow you all away, both pistol and rifle powders. I did not buy a lot all at once but I did buy a few pounds a week for several months before the 2008 shortage hit. The only powder I have bought since late 2007 is 6lbs of H335 I got from a guy who was getting out of reloading. I got caught short on H335 because I wasn't loading for a AR-15 until recently and the bolt action rifle I have in 223 doesn't eat all that much ammo. I could use a pound of AA5744 but that's about it...
