Sad news of the death of country music star Miss Jeannie Seely at the age of 85.
With almost 5,400 appearances on The Grand Ole Opry since 1966, she was known in Nashville as the Queern of the Opry.
I was lucky enough to meet her in May 2024 on my VIP backstage visit. Not only was she friendly and easy to talk to she had a wicked sense of humour.
She told the story of moving onto her new cottage on the Cumberland River and being outside gardening when the General Jackson showboat went past her house, the pilot sounding the horn. Later that afternoon she received a phone call from a friend in the General Jackson band telling her that while bending over gardening she had actually "mooned' the showboat. She said she did it many more times too.
I always enjoyed listening to her Opry performances on the radio. They play here any time from midday to 2:00pm on the Saturday and Sunday afternoons, depending on Daylight Saving time in the two countries. And seeing her in person was great too.
