Just curious, from 1980-present, what would be one of the most rare or sought after Smith? I need to just break down and buy a S&W bible....

I think during that 'gun of the week' period there must have been a ton of short run models made.
I have a model 19 with a 3" full underlug barrel, bead blast blue finish, no hammer spur from the performance center commissioned by Lew Horton. According to the book only 75 made.

It might be the Model 73, a .38 Special snub built on a frame sized between the J and K frames.

My model 64-6.
It's a .38 snub pre-lock that belongs to me and only me and you can't have it.

Model 73 ?

Just when I think I'm getting Smith & Wesson "smart", some body brings this up.

Never heard of it before.

It seems to be a modified J frame that takes a 6 shot K cylinder (Wikipedia).

I think the M73 is a good suggestion, but isn't it too early for this section?

Here's a photo of Mike Priwer's M73:

The suggestion by KurtC on the fixed sight M25 (Mountain Gun barrel profile) is pretty good, I lust after this gun:

My own humble suggestion if this M627 Hunter with 8 inch barrel, supposedly only 2 made, but I've only seen one....

Here's a couple more hard to find - not made in much quantity models, also on the list:

+1 SmithNut, most any of those will qualify..

Especially the 25-6, that's definitely a grail.

To Smithnut-----"....I'm not worthy.....I'm not worthy......." (St Regis bows to the computer screen)

Not quite as rare as a couple of the guns mentioned above, but these two are almost impossible to find:

A pre-lock Model 340Sc. Just 45 of these were built, all chambered for .38 +P instead of .357 Magnum:

Model 032, a 6-shot, .32 Magnum Airweight Centennial. The entire model run consisted of just 180 guns:

How about one of those "Deep Carry" revolvers...
A 442 with an all aluminum cylinder and no front sight made for the Secret Service?

Am I correct that there is only one surviving one of those?

Rumor has it that they had a crack down internally on "one offs" and prototypes getting out of the factory...something to do with ATF (BATFE now) inspections, loan accounts, and what-in-all...all rumor I suspect.

It's changed since Ken Jorgensen was there...

Nice "C" frame there Smithnut.

the 5 inch 29 or 629 DX's are realativly rare, they only made those barrel lengths one year and fewer than 500 if memory serves me.

How about a 3inch 586. One is for sale on Gunbroker right now
