Any Remington 1911 owners?

How are the Rem 1911 pistols doing now that they've been in production for a year?

Remington Arms R1

It has been a fine pistol. Shoots FMJ & JHP ammo to POA.
Made in the USA, they can be found at a good price, cant ask for much more. IMO :)

Sort of interested in one..not so sure I want one just because I like Remington!

Thanx for the pic..

I looked at them but funds not there. I do not have a 1911, and the wife says I do not need one either - think I'll stick with my M&P 45.

I do own a couple perfectly servicable 1911 style peashooters already. And have owned several various makes of 1911 pistols before.

Just have the 'wants'..and like the classical style/no frills version..that and the reveiws seem for the most part rather good.

Think I'll save up some bucks and spring for one sometime this summer.

Well...just bought a Rem 1911 R1 this afternoon...wish I had a functional digital camera..cause it ain't too bad.

Some online pics and videos of the Rem R1 have hi-lighted the rough internal machine work..and some funky exterior machine work too.

I looked at three of these today..and just scattered the one I bought and reassembled it. The machine work and exterior finish/polish is fine. Comparible or better than my Springfield Milspec. Actually better.

One of the three R1 pistols I looked at had a extremely heavy to apply safety. The one I bought is a bit stiff...but not too bad.

It looks good...is quite tightly fitted up...I could feel the 'series 80' goodies working inside..but some lube cured that..and the trigger pull itself is superior to eith of my other 1911 pistols...I have high hopes for the gun!

We shall see how it shoots...

I've looked at these for over a year...I have four 1911s, and none of them are Mil-Spec...the GI style just doesn't work for me. I have fat hands, and get hammer bite...so I like the beaver tail grip safety and rounded hammer.

Now that Ruger has announced their SR1911, I think I will get one of those...it has all the bells and whistles, plus a series 70 system...and the price is probably going to be comparable to the Remington, or a little more. I like the Remington, but after I upgraded it to have the options I want, I'd have more in it than the Ruger.

No Rugers at the gunstores in OKC..I looked in a couple and called some more...have to order one if you want one.

H&H gunrange had 4 Remingtons in stock...I bought mine yesterday...I picked the son up at the bus stop this afternoon..and we went and shot the Remington 1911 R1 and my Springfield Armory Milspec.

The Rem preformed perfectly for me..my son had a few limp-wrist issues with it...accuracy was just as good as my Springer..the Rem's trigger pull is actually slightly better than the Springer..even though the Rem has the series 80 firingpin safety.

The Remington is a nice shooter!..I was impressed with it.

The only gripes I got..the dust-cover is putting a very slight scratch on the right side of the slide...must be a small burr in the frame/dustcover. The front sight has daylight showing between the blade and top of slide. has some sharp edges. I wish it were black parked like my Springfield Milspec instead of blued. My Springfield's parkerized finish has held up very well. We'll see how the Rem's blue finish holds up. I bought it to use..so I figure the blue is going to wear off. Not really knocking the blue. Wish it cost the same as a Rock Island Armory..or Taurus 1911.

It's a very nice..1911...very definately a keeper. I like my 1911's plain-Jane...That's what the Remington is to me..sort of a 'retro' 1911. Blue finish..original type checkered walnut grips..flat mainspring housing...straight up and down conventional slide grip-grooves. Features drawn from Remington's small production run of 1911 pistols back during WWI I guess.

Has the same basic throated barrel/lowered and flared ejection port as the Springfield Milspec. Has the series 80 type firing-pin safety..and the little notch in the chamber as a loaded chamber indicator my older Milspec Springer lacks. Has all the most neccesary modern features for reliability..with cool retro appearance..I like lots!

If you're going to shoot Bullseye, look elsewhere. If you want a super reliable 1911 that is accurate enough for self-defense and plinking, the 1911R1 is the ticket. I don't understand the $400 price difference for a S&W or Kimber. The trigger is heavier than the Kimber I previously owned, but that's not necessarily such a bad thing since a friend who borrowed the Kimber put a hole in the ceiling of the range I used to frequent. Mine shoots low sometimes so I'm thinking about adding an arched mainspring housing.
