Willie Mays, the dynamic baseball Hall of Famer who shined in all facets of the game and made a dramatic catch in the 1954 World Series, has passed away at the age of 93, the San Francisco Giants announced on social media Tuesday.

"It is with great sadness that we announce that San Francisco Giants Legend and Hall of Famer Willie Mays passed away peacefully this afternoon at the age of 93," the team said.

Another class act has left us. RIP good sir.

A true All Star legend. His 54' Giants World Series over the shoulder catch is forever going to be his epitaph!

Another legend gone. The All-Star team of the greats just got another starter. May the Say Hey kid rest in peace.

One of the greatest ever! Hit for average, power, was a superb fielder, had an arm like a cannon, was a great base runner and base stealer - he was a jack of all trades and master of all.
I remember seeing "The Catch" live on TV, watching the Series with my Dad, and what is not often mentioned, his superb throw after "The Catch" that held two runners on base.
Say hey, thanks for the memories, and RIP.

“The catch””

RIP Willie Mays. I found this online and found it very interesting! The Polo Grounds park that Mays played in was a very odd shaped field. It played a HUGE part in how great “The Catch” actually was!
