Ok, this one ought to be entertaining, what is the weirdest thing that you have ever shot as part of testing a load, or just for fun. (legal) Me, I have shot an old hard drive, a hot water heater lid, a car door, plate iron, numerous old plastic bottles, an old TV, and a few other odds and ends that I cannot remember now.

I was trying to shoot from the hip a sawed off shot gun into a dirt bank. I loaded slugs to see the impact about 25 yards off. What I hit was a trash can hidden by a bush full of range pick up glass. Talk about an eruption. Spent the next few minutes recleaning.
Antoher time we were shooting dad's Garand with some A/P that he supplied. We were shooting granite rocks about the size of basketballs. The upper half of the rocks would disappear. Moments later it started to rain gravel. Only took a couple shots to realize that wasn't smart.

A 1950's dated Thermos Jug filled with gasoline!Someone back in the 60's gave me some incendiary rounds for my .303 Brit and we shot this jug at 50 yards .It made one whale of a fireball!!!

Full house 41 Magnums are very loud in closed room. My cat, who was sitting on top of it was never the same after that.

I shot an LPG Bottle on a mates farm with a 30.06 from about 100 meters...What a Boom..I think it went about 100 feet up.I won't be doing that again.

One of these, the first time I ever saw one when I was a kid:

I'll freely admit it scared me more than anything else I had seen to that time. Now, I just regret it, knowing that the little feller is harmless...except for his looks.

He is cute...in a prehistoric kind of way. :p

While not really weird...if you take a 2 liter coke bottle and fill it with gasoline, then set some candles or Sterno cans around it and hit it with a 40gr hp from a .22-250...

Pretty fireballs!

A very large toad at close range with a .380ACP Silvertip - it literally liquidated it.

A very large, late season, copper head that was trying to share my deer blind with me with 12 ga. 00-Buck at very close range - disintegrated it.

An old refrigerator at the dump with 12 ga. slugs at about 50 yards - the 3rd one tore the door off of the hinges.

Regards,

Dave

An M48 tank with a 106mm recoiless rifle. Small booms from the .50 spotting rifle followed by a very, very big boom! Everybody had a great time.

I had a laptop computer that was giving me fits: no matter how much time I spent trying to get it running it remained a kludgy mess. After working on it for hours one afternoon I got pissed. I took the laptop and a Sigma in 40 S&W into the back yard and put a bullet through that machine.

My wife was horrified. I felt immensly better!

I would not normally laugh at an AD, but I'm laughing pretty hard right now. It's kinda hard type.

I would have liked to see how the cat reacted, and I'm just going to bet that the look on your face was a classic.

I've shot all manner of objects over the years. When I was a young guy, me and some buddies were shooting in the hills way out east of San Diego -when it was still legal to shoot there, and I shot propane bbq tank that was about half full with my AK 47. We set the bottle up across a small valley, probably about 150 yards away. I hit the bottle on the first shot, but all it did was hiss. No fireball or flash, kind of disappointing.

One of the funniest things that ever happened was when I shot a full can of canned air with a .22 lr. We were all taking shots and the can had fallen over on its side. When it came my turn to take another shot, I nicked it near the bottom of the can. The nick created a hole that was just small enough to act like a jet engine. The can rocked across the ground, with a white jet of gas coming out the bottom. The can skidded and jumped and bumped along for what seemed like and eternity. We all laughed so hard that we had to put our guns down. I've never seen a can move so fast for so long.

I also, when I was quite a bit younger, had the bright idea of grabbing a brand new spray can of foaming engine cleaner out of my buddy's truck. I tossed it out in front of me and my buddies, grabbed my Mossberg 500 with a riot barrel loaded with birdshot, and shot that sucker before anyone could stop me. Well, the mushroom cloud of white foam that ensued went about 15, maybe 20 feet in the air and landed EVERYWHERE in pretty big radius. We were all cleaning white foam out of ears. Good thing that stuff doesn't rust guns, because my shotgun and my buddies' guns were covered with it, to say nothing of my buddy's truck. It was like being in a two second snowstorm.

I laughed, but for just a minute, I was worried that one of my buddies was going to shoot me.

Good times... :D

Best,

Michael

I didn't get to pull the trigger but one of the most spectacular shooting events, aside from watching Herb Parsons shoot, was the grand finale shot fired at a junior high school hunter safety course. Yeah, once upon a time those things actually happened without a bunch of left wingnuts throwing a national hissy fit. The local gun club supplied the instructors and we actually used a school class room, during normal school hours, and used a school bus to haul us to the range for the shooting part of the course. I don't recall ever hearing a negative comment about the course or the use of school resources.
Anyway, at the end of the final day of shooting, one of the instructors put on a little shooting dmonstration with a 30-06 rifle that ended with a shot into a five gallon water cooler jug full of gasoline. It was placed on a plank laid across a couple of oil drums with a small fire burning under the gasoline. When the bullet hit the glass jug there was a fireball that went straight up and formed a mushroom cloud that looked just like a nuclear bomb explosion....at least a couple hundred feet into the air. We were 100-150 yards away and felt the heat from the fireball. Pretty spectacular to a bunch of 13-14 year old kids back in the 50's.

I shot the neighbor's newly restored pre-WW2 Lincoln Continental, but it was an accident.

The most exciting thing that our group as ever shot happened 30 years ago at a farmer's private dump. My shooting buddies and I were plinking cans at about 10 to20 yards when one buddy said,"see that 3in rd green can, I will hit it with the first shot from my PPK {22lr}" . He did, the can kinda started shaking and then rose at high speed and came right at us. Needless to say we hit the dirt as the 3in. rd can turned out to be the bottom of a butane bottle. First time a can ever fired back.

Ken-

What's an LPG bottle?

On the Discovery channel here, they shot an aqualung bottle to see if it would blow up, like the one did in the shark's mouth in, "Jaws." It wouldn't blow.

They used an M-1 Garand, like in the movie.

This is an awful event,
Yet I got the best laugh all week from reading it.
I nearly choked on my tongue...
I havent shot anything odd myself.
