Over the years I've found some brass that makes me glad I was not there at firing time Left to right - 1 - 30-06 fired in 300 Win Mag 2 - 300 Win Mag fired in 300 Weatherby 3 - 45 Auto slide wasn't locked (?) 4 - 308 fired in 30-06. I'm pretty sure no one was hurt, but I shake my head when I see stuff like this. Anyone else run across some gems?

I have a lot of experience as a Firearms/tactics instructor in both the military and Federal civillian side. I have seen a lot of crazy things but when I became an instructor for my agency
it seems the Crazy things gets topped year after year!!!!!!
I would have thought that type of mentality died off years ago!

Just a few weeks ago at the range I picked up a sleeve of fired 30-06 brass left on the bench with the box. there were 16 pieces of brass in the sleeve and i was glad to find them. Well, when I took a good look at them 4 of the pieces looked very funny. It looks like someone fired some 30-06 ammo in a 300 Win Mag. I should have taken pictures before I scrapped the brass but I didn't think to.

Thing's that make me go hmmm.my wife every time she tell's me to do something.happy shootin.

A mean hissing male opossum was doing its best to rip the siding off my house trying to get to something. Tried to scare it away by pelting it with rocks. Didn't work. I shot it in the head six times with a .22 and all that did was PO the critter.

Grabbed my Mossberg 500 12 GA and two shells. Dropped the first directly into the chamber, slammed the slide home aimed, fired with a strange sounding boom. Opossum now missing most of its head. I racked the slide and no empty shell ejected. Then I looked at the second shell in my hand. 16 Gage!! I had to punch the fired one out with a cleaning rod. Surprisingly only the plastic part had fire-formed up to 12 gage diameter. I'm still not sure how it actually fired.

The most interesting one I ever saw was the .308 that apparently was fired in a pre-64 .270 Model 70 Winchester. What a way to swage a projectile. Didn't hurt the Winchester....what a testament to it's strength.

In one of my NRA Basic Pistol classes I had a student with a Sig 239 that was marked as a 9mm but was really a .40 barrel. that brass was pretty funky with lengthwise splits and wouldn't cycle. Took me a minute or so to figure that one out. I put some .40 S&W rounds through it and it ran just fine.

My student thought that the value of his Sig would be much higher as a mis-mark and wanted to keep it that way. I told him "No Way", call Sig and let them take care of you.

Sig wanted THAT one back real bad!

I am guilty of shooting a 9mm out of my Glock 23 in .40 S&W, I guess thats what happens when you let a noob load ammo for you and you have two open boxes on the bench.

Years ago I mistakingly loaded my 45LC mtn gun with 6 ea. .44 magnums.(Had guns & ammo lying all over my shooting bench. Fired all 6........Noticed accuracy had gone to pot....Upon ejecting the brass I saw 6 potbellied .44 hulls.......No damage to the gun or me.......Still use it to this day......Since...I am very careful to keep the right ammo with the correct gun.

I think the old addage of "haste makes waste" and the carpenters favorite "measure twice and cut once" can apply to a lot of these situations. FORTUNATELY!! No one was hurt of even worse killed in these mishaps. Nothing will ruin your day faster than a firearm blowing up in your face or hands
