I got a Ruger 10/22 takedown 4 or 5 months ago & it's a great rifle; but the BX-25 magazines are frustrating at best! The mags jam at the feed lips, double feeds, fte's ect for the first 10-15 rds. Read on the Ruger forum about keeping them clean & dry, that works for the first 25rds but starts jamming after that. The 10 rd mag works like a charm every time but I want high capacity, I hate loading mags LOL! I'm probably going to take a beating at my lgs but enough is enough! Been hearing a lot of good things about the M&P 15-22. I love my M&P 45, shield 40, & model 29! Don't mean to knock Ruger cause I love my SR1911, GP-100, SR9c, & 22/45 target model. But I want a reliable .22 rifle, is the M&P 15-22 the cure?

I also have a small gun collection and added a 15-22 a few months ago. I think it is a great gun and love mine. I now want to get my wife one and add another for myself. Mine is very reliable but so is my 10/22 but the is just more fun for some reason. I have a regular AR15 also and have a 22 conversion for it but this is just more fun. I do not think you will regret getting one.

I've had like 4-5 FTF's in over 1500 rounds using **** ammo, so I'd say the reliability is great. Only 1 FTF and on all of the FTF's there was a good hammer strike so you can't blame the gun. I also keep it spotless and I think that has a lot to do with reliability.

Also, I only very lightly lube the rails and where the trigger contacts the bolt. Lube anywhere else just attracts gunpowder grit and gums up the works. Again, that's just my opinion.

The nice thing is you can basically customize it as much as you want to. I'd definitely recommend it.

The M&P 15-22 may be the best dedicated AR style rimfire there is. Yes, I know this is a Smith & Wesson forum, but everything I read before purchasing one seemed to be making just that statement.

Spend some time here and read the stories, tales, and reviews from some very knowledgeable people. That will help you make your decision regarding the 15-22 and any future upgrades.

My advice... get one, you'll love it!

If you read the reviews and watch the youtube videos on the 15-22 you will see lots of smiles and words like awesome and fantastic over and over. There is a reason for the smiles and praise. The reason is that the rifle is an wonderful firearm. I love mine and have zero regrets about buying it. I did buy an aftermarket mag for it (it held more rounds) and I hated it. I ended up trading it for a S&W mag. Zero issues.
As stated above, you won't regret buying a 15-22. It is worth all the hype. It is one of the best selling 22lr AR's out there for a reason.

WARNING - PURCHASING A 15-22 WILL LEAD TO GIDDINESS, A FEELING OF EUPHORIA AND CUSTOMIZATION SYNDROME. THE 15-22 EXHIBITS CHARACTERISTICS OF EXCESSIVE AWESOMENESS AND THERE IS NO LIMIT TO WHAT YOU CAN DO TO TRICK ONE OUT. THESE RIFLES ALSO HAVE A TENDENCY TO REPRODUCE SO DO NOT PANIC IF YOU FIND YOURSELF WITH MORE THAN ONE.

You have been warned... :)

i love shooting my 15-22. i had the mossberg 715t first and after two trips back to mossberg, it still couldn't go through a whole mag with an issue. the 15-22 runs great. i have only had issue with some winchester bulk 22 that the bullet was seated crooked. as fasr as loading the 15-22 mags, check out... M&P 1522 Speedloader i have one, they work great!

Lol
Before you know it! you're already hooked.....just wait until the option of 50 round drum magazine appears on the horizon...make space in your cabinet and your heart....your new obsession has arrived.

Love my Black Dog 50 rounders - worth the time it takes to load them!

The 10-22 is a remarkable rifle. The aftermarket magazines often cause... remarks!

The 15-22 is hands down the very best of the AR-15 type .22 LR rifles available short of a dedicated upper on a AR-15 lower. The one I have has worked superlatively with every single type of .22 LR ammunition I have used with it. It even shoots the Remington Golden Bullets like they are match rounds. Accuracy w/ iron sights at 50 yds. is a little less than 2.0 inches for 10 shots fired prone slow fire using CCI Mini-Mags. About the same results have been obtained using similar type .22 LR ammo.

Function with the 15-22 is simply not a problem. Recently my daughter came home to visit. I took her to the range where she fired 600 rounds the first day and 700 rounds the following day. The day after I took the remaining 200 rounds I had left and fired that. All told, that was 1,500 rounds in three days with no cleaning of the rifle or magazines. We were firing Norma .22 LR, Fed. Champion .22 LR ammo. The Norma was rather greasy. The Fed. Champion was dry. The rifle ran like a champ!

I have a number of S&W magazines as well as six ProMag magazines that I converted from 10 round to 32 round capacity. Without exception the rifle runs regardless of which magazine is used. The only times I've ever had a problem it was because I didn't pay attention to loading ammo in the magazine. One other time I failed to properly lock the magazine in the magazine well so that the bolt did not strip off the first round. That was of course due to my own error.

I have not put an optic on my 15-22 nor have I had opportunity to shoot it at more than 50 yds. so I cannot offer any thoughts on what can be done w/ a 15-22 that is scoped and fired at longer distances.

Over 1000rds through my 15-22. One single failure to fire, which was a dud round. Zero malfunctions beyond that. I think that says a lot about the quality of the rifle, as well as the quality and reliability of the .22lr round nowadays. In addition to reliability, the rifle is accurate, loads of fun to shoot and accessorize (99% of the goodies you can get for a regular AR15 can also be had for a 15-22), and very cheap to feed it ammo. Can't go wrong with it.

That's the problem with the 15-22... it's kinda like a Mr. Potato Head! You can put things on, take things off, and change it around however you want. Then change it again next week! It's addicting.

Well I pulled the trigger, I traded it earlier today! My lgs gave me a fair price for my 10/22 takedown ($300). Had 2 BX-25 & 2 BX-25x2 mags, Warne steel scopebase, & a few Volquatsen upgrades. I got delayed & probably won't get my M&P 15-22 till Thursday day. They didn't have one with a flash suppressor but that didn't stop me. Can't wait till this Thursday, will post a pic when I get it!

Usually a delay means a 4 day wait but I noticed the traffic in the store has slowed down a bit. Can't wait to see what she'll do @ the range! Got a Nikon P-series 2x7x32 scope that I'm waiting on rings to get here to install. For now I'm gonna see what I can do with the iron sights.

I got ordered one of PSA's $299 specials today, 15-22 with flash hider and became number three so the other two would not get lonely.

I don't know, some say three is a crowd maybe you should get just one more.

Just kidding $299 is a great price.
