would a fail to feed problem be caused by a short bullet? I mean I shoot 40 gr. CCI's and never had a problem. I was at Wally World today and I saw they had 32gr. CCI Stingers which I didn't buy because I saw they were smaller gr. bullets and it got me thinking. Could a shorter bullet cause this? Obviously they have the fail to eject problem figured out but what about the fail to feed?

Haven't proved it on a 15-22 but on most guns yes bullet length can cause feed prob. For sure

Yes, a shorter bullet could cause failure to feed but lighter bullets are usually not set as deep in the case to keep the same overall length.

You might want to compare the overall length of the cartridges you are looking at.

The stingers may surprise you for length.

I have a very tight chambered .22 Single shot rifle. Regular LR's will chamber and Stingers are a problem

Very similar situation to firing 38's in a .357 and then trying to chamber a .357

Probably not your problem, but worth a look before you do something expensive.

Iggy I haven't had any problems but I've only used the 40 gr. Mini Mags. I was just wondering if that could be the cause or part of the cause with other peoples guns.

Don't have any with me to measure but, doesn't the Stinger also have a longer case? The .22LR uses a heel based bullet (.222") where the outside diameter is the same as the case. The .22 WMR uses a larger case with a .224" bullet seated inside.

I wonder what smith's suggested ammo measures?

It was just a guess I wasn't sure if all .22 rounds were the same length.

Already you can see length doesn't appear to be that much of a factor. Unless Smith doesn't know what there talking about.:cool:

Since that same list of ammo just happened to be posted here back in October by some dude "JRD" I suspect there is something more to the story here regarding the S&W ammo list.

Looks like you may have hit on something, Skidder.

Rem GB is significantly shorter and operate significantly worse. Next longer are Fed and they work pretty darn good. MaxiCooper has been bragging about perfect results and no mag snags from CCI and they are longer still. I dunkow... but you may be on to something.

Maybe a combo problem of a short round and less powder/fps. Just an uneducated guess.
