The panic driven ammo shoratge is really making some strange bedfellows. The ranges do not allow the use of steel case ammo..... because they sell the brass and steel cases can't be reloaded.

But the local range has been basically out of ammo for weeks. They posted no ammo sales many weeks back and kept the only ammo they had for "rental gun use only".

Now they have a stock of Wolf ammo for sale..... right next to the sign pointing out that you CAN'T shoot it here.

This just gets wierder and wierder....

Several ranges in San Diego will throw you out for shooting anything made by Wolf. They claim numerous dangerous failures. Anybody use this stuff? Good results or bad??

Thank God we don't have those idiots running our local range. I shoot a lot of Wolf .223 at the range and have never had a misfire. I've seen quite a few other shooters using Wolf hangun ammo and again, no problems.

I use Wolf ammo exclusively in my AK and it's good stuff. I guess there were some issues with the old Wolf ammo (corrosive primers, for starters) but I haven't heard anything bad about Wolf ammo lately.

Ditto, in my experience Wolf is reliable and consistant. Both in Handgun and rifle loads, as well as primers, very reliable ignition.

I have seen three instances with Wolf where the cartridge "popped" but nothing came out the barrel. Further investigation revealed that none of the cases had flash holes. I use it now and again in my AK, but never in my AR's. Having said that, I also have a 380 ACP Remington factory cartridge that has neither primer or flash hole. So, no ammo is perfect all the time, but I've seen more problems with Wolf than most others.

I had been shooting Wolf ammo for a while Really like it very accurate maybe a bit dirty.I just cant find it now. I have had ZERO problems with it. All handgun stuff 9mm 40S&W & 45's.

Used to buy wolf for 65.00 to 75.00 500 rnd case.

I've used a fair bit of Wolf in my 1911 .45ACP, HiPoint carbine (9mm), Mini-14 (5.56), and AKlone (7.62).

It's all always gone bang. It is dirtier than most other stuff, but I have to clean the guns anyways... I wouldn't hesitate to buy more if I found a good deal on it.

I have a CZ 82 that I really like to shoot. But .....

My range has 9X18 (9mm Makarov) that they approved for use there, but it was $20 a box before the election.

I used to be able to get Monarch 9X18 at Academy and WallyWorld for ~$9 per box, but it's steel-cored, so we can't use it at the range. Of course, can't find it anywhere locally at any price right now.

Used Wolf almost exclusively in my SKS for a long time with absolutely zero problems. Since the SKS likes to throw the empties almost as far as the bullets, I don't like shooting anything in it that I have to go hunt down and retrieve.

I've used Wolf .223 in a mini-14 with no issues although I have been told Ruger doesn't like you to run steel cases through their guns.

I know several people who use Wolf handgun ammo but none have ever had a problem that I am aware of.

My concern with Wolf is that those who use it aren't doing much to support US industry and our economy. Yeah, I know it's cheap, yet consider if your job hung in the balance.

Wolf ammos is garbage. Steel case ammo is hard on guns because the case expands and doesn't "shrink back" as much as brass so it's still tight when the extractor has to yank it. Worn or broken extractors are common with steel ammo. Guns designed to shoot steel ammo have very loose throats. Guns NOT designed to cycle it often choke on it.

My point was, it's funny the range who villainizes the stuff and throws people out if they catch them with it is SELLING THE STUFF.

Know why?

because they are afraid people won't buy guns if they can't get ammo, so they sell them the crappy ammo and then tell them to go to a different range to shoot it......

The issue with "old" wolf ammo was it was coated in lacquer, which melted off when the gun got hot and jammed up guns. A few years back, Olympic Arms (who makes AR-15's) got tired of having to do warranty repair on their guns returned gunked up with dried lacquer from the crappy ammo and they put a disclaimer on their website saying that using Wolf voided the warranty. They did NOT say using bad ammo, they actually said Wolf ammo by name.

There was a range/gun shop in town here that would not let you shoot anything but brass because they didnt want to sort it before they had it recycled. they also made you purchase their ammo for around $5 more a box than the store down the street. the range is no longer open!!!

Beemerrider, hhmmmm, that's ironic; BMW isn't exactly a US company, but in your defense, some cars are made here though.

I was given a ****load of Wolf 9mm hollow point ammo years ago. Even in my Browning Hi-Power, it was unreliable and crap. I still have a bunch of it.

Now I know why the person gave it to me in the first place.
