I sent a Colt 1911 XSE back to their Custom Shop to have the front of the frame steppled/checkered. And front of the trigger guard cut with serrations. Night sights and ejection port and feed ramp done. It was only gone a month. Not bad. So last week they called me and said it was done and they were sending it back adult signature required! And gave me the tracking number and it would be sent overnight? Cool! So I kept watching the tracking and sure enough it said delivered?

So I waited and waited and no one came for the signature? I made sure I was home! So the day after it said it was delivered and asking my wife and our kids (I thought might have came by and just happened to sign for it?) no one knew anything?

I was fix'n to blast FED**. But waited. So after two days, I'm worried! So on the third day, I walk the mail box and see a package on my front porch? We never use the front door! Except when company comes or or we get a package.

So I walk over and sure enough it was the Colt! And stamped on the package in 3-4 places, in big red letters, adult signature required!!! My gun layed on the front door for three days! Thank goodness someone didn't come by! Like a salesman or a church group.

I called FED** and went off! And all they said was sorry!! The driver made a mistake and they would talk to him!

That is messed up!

Had something similar happen back in the early 1980's. Ordered a HK-91 rifle from a buddy who had an FFL. ($499.00 by the way) It was several days late to his shop. That night he entered his apartment thru a side door he seldom used, and found it sitting there, on the porch, along with a case of .308 ammo I had also ordered. This was in downtown Bridgeport CT, a pretty bad area at the time. For some reason, the distributer delivered it to his residence, not place of business, and I guess the "signature required" didn't mean anything..

I have had rather expensive camera gear delivered to neighbors in the past, but no guns, fortunately. Once I ordered a case of ammo, and noted it was "delivered" on the computer, but not at my side door, or front. Took the dog out for a walk before going to work, and found it sitting on the cargo carrier on the back of my truck. WTH? Like the driver couldn't walk another 10 feet, and put it by the door. If I hadn't taken the dog out, I would have been driving all over with a case of ammo sitting there without me knowing it.

Glad you found your Colt before someone else did.

That stinks. But most other people will use a front door. Can't fault them for that, but I sure can fault them for not getting a signature.
 
If I have a lite package UPS leaves it at the front door. If its heavy the garage door which is the one we use.

You just described the state that the country is in all over. Nobody cares about doing their job right. I've had car repairs, home repairs and other services transactions lately and it's obvious that this is the general attitude.
 
That happened to Me a few times when I had a C+R license,I would come Home from work and find a long box containing a Rifle just leaning against the front door.
 
I work for usps and our scanners will not accept a delivered event without something in the signature block. Go back to the site and see if they have a view signature option. Our site gives you the ability to see who signed for it.
 
Frustrating isn't it.
2 months ago I took off work waiting for my warranty repaired rifle to be delivered (adult signature required).
Refreshed site every couple of hours. Last update said: delivery attempt made, no adult signature available. I screamed ***. Called 800 number. Got in touch with local hub, drove a half hour there and waited an hour and half, till driver returned from his day. Supervisor retrieved my package from the driver in the bay. Driver came in and apologized and said he couldn't find my house. I said please read the comments next time - my cell phone number is on their twice. Signed and walked out. Next day I got a call to take a automated survey. I just laughed and hung up.
 
A friend of mine bought a Nambu pistol on-line. It was sent Adult Signature Required. Driver left it on the front porch when nobody was home to sign for it. The package disappeared and was never found. He had to wait 60 days to collect on the insurance. :mad:
 
It would not be the first time that's happened! The Fedex driver could loose his job over that - if it were pressed.
 
I'm an HR manager for a small federal agency. We send documents to people by Fed Ex every day. Most are marked with the "signature required" option so we can prove delivery and prevent the "I never got it" response by the recipient. We have had numerous occasions where the "signature required" was ignored, and/or the signature was forged, and the packet was left on a door step. When we complain to Fed Ex, their response is sometimes an apology, and if you push the issue, they'll refund the charge for the shipment to the agency. After they do that, Fed Ex feels this is adequate treatment for the problem.

Fed Ex used to be a good company with a solid reputation. Unfortunately, they've gotten to be just as bad as others in the field.

I've seen some lazy ups and other services guys here. I had a mailman, that nobody liked, who would always leave about a 3 inch stack of other peoples mail in my box. I called to inform supervisors more than once. One time I was asked to read out the addresses they had on them, and after reading them out, it was suggested that I deliver them!!!!!

I said no I wouldn't since I wasn't a paid postal worker--and as far as I know, its against the law.

It took them three days to come pick up that mail. Before then, I used to take the stacks back to them but no longer will.

Another time before when I complained, the stuporviser I spoke with said the delivery guy was about to retire--so I was supposed to ignore his behavior. Mail delivery was a job I've tried for, for almost 30 years and could never get---onky to constantly run into these types here. Ups and other services, I've witnessed delivery guys just tossing packages in yards never trying to get out of truck or trying to get signatures. They did that to me a few years ago when I bought a portable DVD player that was coming from california. It was marked with neon stickers that it was a portable DVD player. This thing sat several feet away from my porch--but I guess the ups driver thought it was OK to sit it in the shade of the tree in my immediate area. All kinds of people walk in my area all the time and could have easily taken it.

The worst one for me was with DHL. $20k of diagnostic electronics left at the door, when package was supposed to be held for two days due to an emergency trip. Signature for customs broker and shipper were both required, and the delivery person left it outside anyway - on a package that shouldn't have been on the truck in the first place.


I came back to torrential rain and no equipment. Package gone. DHL swore that they had retrieved it, as requested, but couldn't find it in their system.


At the end of a full day of carving out new orifices (orifii?) over the phone, a cute new Mommy from two town homes over came by with my package. She had seen it getting soaked, and had taken it in to be neighborly.

I hung up on DHL, and let them look (and call back) for two days before I told them that I had the goods. A dishonest person could have likely gotten away with claiming the loss, as they had muffed the delivery so badly.


I always wondered who lied - the driver to cover his butt, or the dispatch to cover theirs.
 
Not sure what recourse, if any, you want. Iff'n you're really pissed and don't mind burning bridges, call BATFE and report the transaction. Of course, they're gonna ask why you didn't check your front door... and you're not likely gonna get anything from FedEx again.

These are the days in which we live. Expediency reigns, and BS is its constant companion. Most of us have had a delivery go cattywampus. Watch 'em like hawks, but getting your stuff is more important than getting even. The latter is a long cold road.
