This is what happens when there is no 2nd Amendment

Their country, their rules.

Personally, I like Canada.

I was born in a country called Canada, grew up there, raised a family there, and used to really like it and was proud to be a Canuck. My father, uncles, and grandfather served in the military in both world wars to preserve and defend it. Then Trudeau senior (a known Communist) decided to destroy it. He made a good start. Trudeau junior (actually a son of Castro) has stated publicly that we have no national identity and are now the world's first "post-nation state". No kidding. He actually said that. I have roots in the USA, more family in the USA than here, and would move there in a heartbeat if it was practical.

It is not clear to me that the Supreme Court would rule that the 2A protects so-called assault style weapons.

It’s an interesting list in that it also includes page after page of mortars, missiles, heavy machine guns, recoilless rifles, etc. Can’t remember the last time I owned any of those. As I mentioned above, it does not include the M1 Garand and, unless I missed it, it also does include the H&K G3 (PTR91) or the FN FAL and its many variations. Both in 7.62, these are oldies but goodies!

Yup. The bozos that made that list barely know the difference between a bazooka and a borzoi. And all those have long been banned in Canuckistan anyway. The whole thing is designed purely to bolster the PM's status with the gun-ignorant and the rabid antis.

Curious thing about the Garand. From the last Great Harrassment (Bill C-68 in 1998), when they introduced the 5-rd. mag limit for semi-autos, the Garand was exempt because... it doesn't have a mag. So it slipped through. No one has ever used one in a crime in Canada anyway AFAIK.

I'm not familiar with the HK PTR91, but I do know that in 2014, a known psychopath gunned down four RCMP officers in Mayerthorpe Alberta. He was already on a weapons prohibition list, but had acquired a bolt-action 30 cal. hunting rifle, a Beretta 92 and some HK semi-auto military-style rifle which had already been banned under Bill C-68! So THAT was sure effective :(

BTW: did anyone ever find out what kind of weapon that their last killer used? I've never heard.
The RCMP are being very cagey about that. No idea why. The only sort-of-information that has been let out is that he had one of the rifles on the now-banned list. Of course, he didn't go to a retail outlet and buy it, since he had no licence.

Even weirder, a recent article said that investigators,"were fairly sure he didn't have a licence" which is hard to believe. All registered firearms owners are in the database. Either he was in there or he wasn't. I suppose all databases have errors in them but this sounds decidedly fishy.

I find it of concern that they came up with that extensive list so quickly.
Trudeau was warbling on about banning stuff when he was first elected in 2015, so no doubt it's been simmering away for some time, and lilkely the OIC decision as well, which probably came as a result of the same action in New Zealand. Knee-jerks seem to be infectious.

There will be a lot of pushback from the western provinces, except maybe B.C.

It is unclera exactly what kind of pushback is actually possible, although with the massive debt being incurred from COVID-19, it may well be that the Feds. won't have the money to do much in the way of buybacks. Of course, they'll want the guns sent in BEFORE they shell out any cash, and depending on how much money may or may not be available, they could drag that out for several years. And you can bet that the actual cost will be far higher than they estimated.

There may be a very large number of appeals filed- not because they'll work, but because they will cause a massive legal backlog which may take ages to clear.

As to BC, it is divided into rural and urban sensibilities, so there will be pushback and some mischief created there as well.
