Last week on one of our "Gun Hunting Expeditions" I ran across a couple nice finds. This is one of them here. Can anyone give me an approximate birthdate on this one. The grips are numbered to the gun in pencil and the SN is 24XXX. I'm guessing early 1920's.

Well, shoot! I can't believe you haven't had a response yet. According to my SCSW, 3d Ed., your guess is as good as mine.

Somewhere between 1917 and 1940. Ended in 1940 with approx. 54,500 made. So...who knows? You could be right.

Hey Quarter, Thanks for the smile

I, for one, can appreciate a smart ass. Keeps the world interesting.

Seriously, I thought someone may have one close to the SN. I have a 32 Reg Police with a letter that was shipped in 1928. The SN on this gun is well below it. So with that and judging from the grips, I arrived at the early 20's conclusion. I will be lettering this one, but was just trying to confirm my guess.
