I remember living in Rifle in the early 80s; watching all of the Houston folks trying to drive was funny as all get out.

When I was a kid and loved snow city streets were never plowed. Chains were put on tires and stayed on. No interstates to rob the town of visitors and business.

County roads were maintained but sometimes the drifts cutting the roads stayed a long time. Dad was a rural mail carrier and he loved having me along in the winter. No drift was too wide or too deep when I rode with him. My job you see was to walk to the nearest farmhouse and kindly asked the farmer if he could fire up the tractor and come and pull dad out. I loved seeing the farmers eyes twinkle; I think they looked forward to Dad drift busting.

Build snow tunnels and snow forts and go sledding till you collapsed. Ah those were the days.

And yesterday there was a huge pile-up on Pena Blvd heading to Denver International as a fast moving snow squall moved in. No tickets issued either amazingly.

Gorgeous though cool morning today but the clouds are starting to roll in from the west of the Denver area-looks like the weather guessers are saying more to come this afternoon. Yay.

I remember my years in Colorado in the mid 60's. 90 plus degrees in C springs and 30 + degrees on Pikes Peak. All in a days drive.

June was especially exciting; start with sun, then rain, then sleet, than snow then watch a beautiful sunset over the Ramparts.

Great days.
