Called and got a shipping lable for the 586 to go back to S&W.
For the first time I read the small print on the instructions S&W sent.
It tells me where you can ship it from, which, in my case was from a world shipping center. I guess that is what you call the place where Fed-Ex collects everything from this part of Texas to forward it to wherever.
I called the 1-800 number to get the location for Houston.
The conversation goes somewhat like this:
Bob, C/S, says take it to the 24 hour location on "x" st--then hedges. It is a gun you have to take it to the Shipping HQ's--wait a minute and let me get someone else on the line.
A she, who is never identified, get on line and confirms what Bob says.
I ask if they will have a box at the shipping HQ. "No", we can't ship it in our box--you will have to provide the box.
But I have a shipping lable---When I have done this in the past I have taken the gun in a gunbox and Fed-Ex gave me a box and i shipped it.
She says--what does the label say?
I says 2 days priority.
She says---we will only ship it overnight, no two day shipping.
Humm, I says. The fed-ex shipping lable came from S&W.
Well, go buy a box and put the lable on it and we will ship it, from the shipping hq's.
I says. Let me get it straight --you won't ship guns unless they are overnight and then you will not provide the box--but since you allow S&W to do it you will ship this one---IF i provide the box---is that correct?
She says--yes, that is correct.
I then ask, does that make sense to you?
Long pause and some conversation between her and Bob, who is still on the line---then she says the rules have changed for 2011.
I says OK.
I took it to the 24 hour place about 10 minutes away--showed them the gun and shipping lable--and asked what I should do.
The manager said grab one our boxes from behind you---BTW, IT isn't loaded is it?
I said no, its not loaded.
Good he says---get a box and give it to me. Then he gave me a reciept with a tracking number and I walked out the door.
Blessings
