want to take the useless birdcage off my camo 15/22. where can I find a thread cap at? didn't see one on tacticool's site. also, are the threads typical "righty tighty-lefty loosey?", and do I need new crush washers if I wanted to re-install the birdcage?

Yes on the righty tighty... Possibly on the crush washer... Also make sure you use barrel blocks and a vise when you uninstall or reinstall the birdcage... Not sure about the thread cap... Did that help any? :)

i have found them at my local Tru Value for .99 cents! almost exactly the same as a Tacsol, just had to paint it to match the barrel, but it would have looked cool in the stainless too instead of black. thread protectors are used everywhere, not just on the end of gun barrels. may want to check at one of the local hardware stores.

mine has a dedicated can that i don't take off, but when i did before i got my others i did not reuse the crush/peel washer, just a normal washer to get it to index correctly (takes some fiddling with different thicknesses to get it right) i just took the upper into the store...this is AZ by the way! found just a flat fender washer and used it. it is basically used to take up the space and to index it correctly. put a little clear fingernail polish, drop of crazy glue if you don't have blue locktite and your good to go. if doing that i only put on hand tight and it does not loosen up. if it were to stay on i'd use my DIY barrel block 2x4 pieces and a wrench to tighten.
