The 4" and 6 1/2" pinto were in the same shipment to Rex Firearms on July 30, 1954. This shipment also included 10 6 1/2" P24's with Bright Blue finish and Red Post Front sight (I own one of the ten as does Xfuzz). Also in the same shipment was a 6 1/2" Pinto with red ramp front sight and a Pre-Model 21 Pinto that has been shown by another Forum member.

The 6 1/2" Nickel cylinder gun was shipped on April 14, 1953 to Rex Firearms and was 1 of 2 in the shipment.

I have noticed that many "Pintos" were shipped to Rex Firearms. I wonder if this particular store had an "in" with somebody at the factory or if it was just simply that they ordered many pinto guns and any other store could have done the same. Fantastic guns BTW Dick.

Rex Pinto Revolvers

I was associated with the Original Rex Firearms in NYC during
the mid 1950's.
The "Pinto" revolvers were sort of a 'stock in trade' item and
were carried in inventory quite often.
Had occasion to aquire one myself and had it until only a few years ago.
The factory records were very poor, ( strange as it may seem) as the one I had for all those years 'lettered' as never made at all.
I had it on my personal NYC Pistol Permit until 1993.
It came by the way with a "W"style mainspring, which I changed to the convential style for more reliable igniton.

The latter, I am pretty sure. When I was just starting to get interested in guns, in the mid-sixties, there was a PAWN SHOP in Jacksonville that dealt in new S&W's, and I remember their having a number of J-frame .38 Spl pintos. I don't recall a significant price differential, either. I do remember that at that time they would not sell me one because I was under 21, but encouraged me to come back as soon as I was, and they would give me 10% off list. Unfortunately, I was stationed elsewhere by that time. They had some nice Centennials!
