Thumb Saftey for M&P9c

Can a manual thumb safety be installed on my M&P9c if I purchase one from S&W and have gunsmith install?

I have been told no, if it did not come with a thumb safety one cannot be installed. Nothing is impossible, but remember the law of diminishing returns. I called S&W to try to buy an extra thumb safety for my M&P40c, so I could cut off the right side to enable CT grip usage, I was told by the representative that the thumb safety is part of the frame assembly ( I think), and was not available for purchase separately.
In my opinion if you want a thumb safety, buy one with a thumb safety, or trade for one, trying to add one is probably going to be more problems, and more costly in the long run.
