My condolences and prayers to you and your family Big Lou. And Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery is one of the prettiest places in San Diego. For the Forum members who have never been here, it is on top of a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean to the west and to the east is the skyline of downtown San Diego with a full view of the mountains in the distance. Just below the east view before the city is North Island Naval Air Station where we currently have three of the biggest Aircraft Carriers parked in the bay. The Point Loma Lighthouse sit atop the tip of Fort Rosecrans, which was actually a fort in WW2. Thank you Big Lou for sharing your Father's legacy with us and blessings to your family.
Blessings. Lost my dad three years ago to the same disease. He was a bombardier in WWII on a B-24 (that was built in San Diego). Rosecrans must be the most beautiful cemetery in the world. I know you must be proud of him and his service.
Big Lou, Condolences from a fellow San Diegan and member of your Dad's generation. My war was Korea, and I'm going to more & more funerals at Fort Rosecrans every year as time runs out for us, but my friends and I will meet again in the Great Gun Show in the Sky! Thank you for your service on the San Diego PD ! Ed.
My heart felt condolances to you & yours. I'm reading this on May 12th. It was my fathers birthday, born in 1910. He passed election day Nov.1968. I still miss him.
I see the little ol' men at the VA Hospital that are stooped and withered by time, but I know in their hearts that they are still Proud and Strong Warriors. God Bless You and Your Family Lou.
I'm very sorry for your loss. The passing of all these WW2 vets is a loss to all of us. We owe them a huge debt that cannot be repaid. Please keep his memory alive in your family. I'm trying to do that for my dad and granddads with my children and grandchildren.
I'd like to add my condolences as well. You are you're Father's Son and he lives on in you and your Father will stay with you with each memory. God Bless.
My Dad has been gone since 1999 and he's still with me everyday in my thoughts. Also a WW11 Vet. He served aboard Destroyers: HMCS Resitgouche and HMCS Kootenay, Chief Petty Officer, Gunner 1st class.
