Hipster Seattle urbanites protest the arrival of an Alaska-bound Shell Oil Drilling Rig by meeting it in their (oil-based) polyurethane-plastic kayaks. And in timber country to boot, with no shortage of woods suitable for canoe and boatbuilding, and boatbuilders to build them. And they can't understand why I'm ROFLMAO. ;)

Seattle pressured Boeing to remove a WWII aircraft from their museum because it had been used by the Luftwaffe and bore a swastika on the fuselage. The welcomed a submarine that sits on the waterfront that has a hammer and sickle on the sail.
They use some convoluted logic to explain it.

Seattle is an interesting place. I used to live there in the 70-80's. Still in the area. During the Alaska gold rush it boomed because so many people came through here on their way to the Yukon. Now we have coal and oil moving through here. There is a big push to build new terminals for coal and oil near Seattle. The Shell drill rig is the latest big energy presence here. Looks like Shell decided to make Seattle it's operations base for Arctic drilling.

Seattle being a liberal city has just about exploded over all this fossil fuel traffic. They have coal and oil trains rolling through the city that are over a mile long, lots of them. Public and private transportation is disrupted and people can't get to Starbucks for their lattes. Now this, a drill rig parked across the street. There goes the neighborhood.

I was listening to the news and apparently Shell is going to get fined $50 a day for ignoring the city council's pulling their permit. Bet they're shaking in their boots.

What is wrong with these peoples thinking? Why do they do this stuff?
Because they are stupid and have no understanding of how their economy works.
They get their kayak, purchased last year from REI, likely shipped or delivered via a large truck. Load it on top of their SUVS and drive down to Shilsole or Elliot bay or whatever, to make a stand against big oil.

Any wonder why I refuse to do anything there unless coerced? That city is a major boil on the sweaty posterior of the State, and needs a good lancing. We need a better access control system at MP52, because the inhabitants of that place are damaging the rest of the State. Every time one of those low functioning narcissistic drains on society open their mouth, I feel my IQ points draining and my soul dying as if Billy Madison and a Dementor had an affair. I am pretty sure that is the origin story of those wastes of a double helix.

Because they think if they brush their teeth and eat blueberries, they will live forever, and that sixteen wheelers can be jump started from an iPod.

For the children.

Seattle is a weird place. Imagine a high tech environment where Bill Gates founded Microsoft and all the companies which followed. Then there are those who are still stuck in the '60's. Now, you have an environment where older VW's mixes with BMW's and Mercedes; organic foods mixed with power bars. Seattle is a weird place.

They obviously don't have jobs.

And you know this because...?

I'm looking at the photo, searching for that dead giveaway that indicates these people are unemployed. I don't see it. What is it?

What a place!

Born in Seattle, and now an ancient albatross, I've watched the western side of state slide ever closer to dropping into the abyss.
And as it made its steady progress to the left, I've moved further and further out. I know I'd be more comfortable on the dry side of the state - with my own kind of folks, but I've always been close to the salt water. So I now reside on an island many miles north of Seattle. Many years ago I asked a friend why he'd moved his family out of town to one of the islands. His reply: "Because the ding-dongs (his wording more colorful) have to pay to get out here". Yup, our ferry system is considered by some of us to be one of the last bastions of defense against the moral/mental decay that is infesting the Seattle area... Yes, they come up as "tourists", but we've got them outnumbered here.

They have jobs. If they didn't they wouldn't be in Seattle. Apt rent in the city is about 2K a month. Near the city about $1500. I know people that live there. If you don't make 100K a year it's almost too expensive to live there. One of the reasons I moved. It's a lot like San Diego.
