I could go into a long rant about all the things wrong with Hollywood, but casting Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher? C'mon!
But then (of the currently available and active actors i can think of), who would you cast? If I had a time machine, a younger Clint Eastwood would work, a younger Robert Mitchum maybe, someone with an edge, but credible, and some size...

Maybe it's me, but I can't take him seriously as an actor. When I see him on the screen, I see Tom Cruise acting the same way he always does, I don't see the character he is supposed to inhibit. It is like he is playing Tom Cruise...

I had never heard of the Jack Reacher books until the question came up about Tom Cruise playing the part came up a few weeks ago. Since then I have read two of the books and greatly enjoyed them. So much so that I will NOT see the movie simply because I cannot imagine Cruise as the main character. Thanks to these threads I have not only been introduced to a series of books that I enjoy but have saved the price of a ticket to a movie that would have irritated me. In answer to your question though I would like to have seen Tom Selleck in the roll.

Cant see jack reacher jumping on the couch? I just started my 4th book all due to that thread three weeks ago. Actualy, it was just on the news yesterday that they are putting a hold on that movie due to the CT shooting. Probley the movie is so violent that they didnt think it would go with the public mourning at this time.

I just started re-reading One Shot which is the book the movie is based on. It opens with a sniper using an M-1A to gun down five people in a crowded area, in an apparently random fashion. I wouldn't be surprised if they shelve it for months.

As said, I read the first 3 books and have two to go before I go get some more. I am reading them in order. He is only not quite mediocer on his gun knowledge. He thinks a shotgun devistates everything in front of it in about a 70 degree funnel etc. Also he might have 8 villians all prodding his ribs with rifles at the same time and it seems that all 8 continuely find it nessasary to keep their guns pointed at him at the same time. A bit much. Too many unbelivable coincidences too. (That stuff just happens to me). So far in the 3 books he`s knocked off probley 35 villians or so. It is interesting reading though.
