Recently got the approval to qualify with and wear a revolver to work. I am the training division sergeant and spend almost all of my time here, far from the HQ flagpole, either in the office or on the range. I had a choice of the issued revolver, a S&W 342 "Air Lite Ti" or I could provide my own, but it had to be a S&W 38. I advised the boss I would use my own S&W 15-3 snub nose. It just so happened that the only other revolver being carried around here was an issued 342, and the officer who carried it turned it in (in exchange for an issued Glock 43) the same day I qualified with the 15.....so the the revolver service chain continues on, unbroken since the founding of the department...for another 5 years at least.

A couple of caveats came along with the approval: 1) Only while at the training division offices and range. If I'm scheduled to be working the road then it's back to the Tactical Tupperware. 2) I have to keep my issued duty gun/rig (Gen 5 Glock 17) readily available at all times "just in case", and 3) The holster had to at a minimum a "level 1" with a snap/strap. Well for the last 8 years I have spent almost every duty hour within the #1) guideline, so I'm pretty happy about it all.

So tomorrow morning I will leave the house dressed in the standard training uniform...a pair of 511 khakis - a polo shirt with embroidered badge/name - black danner boots.....and this gun.......

Model 15

Great looking rig !!! I totally agree with .357magger - but go with CompII speedloaders and show the new guys how to reload - but first teach them how to load / unload / make safe a revolver because they sure don't teach that anymore. New guys have no clue.
I offered to return to academy after retirement on my own time with own weapons of various types (handguns & longuns) for a brief hands on "weapons familiarization" class but was told it wasn't needed / necessary. Ok ..... so you know how to unload a Seecamp do you ? A Garand?
Every time I go for HR218 qual. I ask the range officer if he wants to shoot revolver and they always enthusiastically agree - but first I have to teach them how to use it - and they always ask "where's the safety" ?
I showed up at NRA Tactical Instructor school (me and 14 young street / swat cops) with a revolver and my old duty rig and they looked at me like I had two heads .... I had to "prove myself" before instructor said I was good to go - but at the end of the day they were all asking to shoot my model 19 ..... luckily I brought an extra case of .38 (before the ammo pandemic obviously) 😊
OP you are lucky your department authorized - hope you can pass the torch !!

I always wore my dump pouch with the flap on the bottom.

Well.....having never wore a dump pouch before, I might be doing it wrong for sure, lol.

This pouch has two snaps, the one you see that snap closes the flap and one on the opposite/ backside of the pouch that when unsnapped allows the pouch to swing down 180 degrees.

I practiced with it. Pull the flap up with the fingers of my left hand while at the same time thrusting my thumb between the back of the pouch and the belt. Quick thrust forward with my thumb and the pouch drops down and fills my hand with six rounds. That I can do pretty fast...Then the slow part, loading the six loose rounds in the gun.

I'll flip it around and see how that goes. I appreciate the insight!
