Well I definately took the short bus to the range today. I think I may have even won idiot of the day award if not the week, and that's saying something considering how large of a public range Ben Avery is.

Took out my Winchester 70 in .270 and another 70 in 7mm Magnum. I've been dieing for the past couple of weeks to get out with them and try some new handloads. Fired off 3 rounds out of my .270. Looked through the scope and saw no holes in the paper. I was like, "What the hell?" And like any other guy, fired off another 3 round group just to prove that the first wasn't a fluke. No holes.

So now I'm thinking that my handloads are either way off from factory, not likely or that I've got a problem with my scope. I decided to wait until the next break and move my target stand back to 50 yards. So I finished up the firing session with my 7mm Mag. At least I was getting great groups with it.

Cease fire is called, I haul out a new target to 50 yards and retrieve my 100 yard target. I fire a single round at the target with the .270 and still no hole. I fire off another at the center of the target board and still no hole. It was only then that I noticed the head stamp on my ammo, .25-06.

Yep in my hurry to pack up the car last night I grabbed a box of .25-06 handloads instead of my .270 loads. So I packed up, drove back to the house, walked through the house back to my reloading room cursing the whole way, picked up my .270 loads, got back in the car and drove back to the range.

The good news is the rifle did fantastic with my handloads, consistently firing 1" groups. I'd like to take this time now to apologize to whomever at Ben Avery may have been wondering why their target had additional holes in their target that resembled the sideways view of a Hornady 120GR. HPSP bullets.

Not long ago I took a trip to the range with a couple 22 rifles, a couple of my favorite Smith 38 specials, and one old Colt 1911, Got there, Started to unload the car and realized I forgot the ammo box I packed that very morning........
Drove 20 min to closest gun shop and overpaid for some ammo so the trip wasent totally wasted....
Mabey we can ride the short bus together some day.
I will bring the PB&J !
