Acquired this yesterday. Trying to determine model name and year of manufacturer. Trying to research these has me confused.

I will post pictures.

It is a single action, 5 shot. Based on my measurements it matches up to 38s&w. 5" bbl. Serial# 71956. I actually found some ammo in my collection that I think will work, if modern versions of this stuff is safe in an old gun.

Thanks!

Hi There,

You have a .38 CF S&W Single Action 2nd Model. These were made
from 1877 to 1891 (serial numbers: 1 - 108255).

Cheers!
Webb

Great gun with an uncommon barrel length. Only about 8.5% of the surviving 38 SA 2nd models wear 5" barrels.
