Had to run some errands and stopped at the local Tractor Supply. Since they had it I picked up some of the dog food the dog likes and I was also surprised that they had the treats she likes.;)
Now while I was checking out I noticed their magazine rack and there they had copies of the now titled Firearms News, use to be Shotgun News.
I use to pick this up back in the 90's and didn't think to much of it then, I really can't see how this rag stays in business. I picked up a copy just for whatever reason? What did they think a name change was going to make it better? I know now for sure all these years I haven't missed anything! :)
One thing though I got to say about this Tractor Supply place, They sure have something for everybody!;)

I get my 4 Health dog food and dog treat bones from Tractor Supply.
I have bought a few other things from them but have to watch some things are kind of high priced compared to competition.

Tractor Supply was ahead of the curve on the farm store craze and was one of the first to pop up in abandoned box stores. Good for them! Wish I'd have bought some of their stock but it was always too high. ;)

We have a local Rural King and it's like Tractor Supply on steroids, family owned and ambitious they are on a major expansion. Our local store took over an entire Kmart super store, well over 100,000 sq feet, and they have agreed to take over the adjoining Kroger which is as big or bigger. Soon will be over 5 acres under roof. Glad to have a store like that 2 miles from my house. :)

I shop there every two weeks for feed. To show you how redneck we are, my wife buys her western shirts there.

Guess that makes me super redneck because there are lots of days that from the hide out everything I've got on came from Rural King. :D

Best pocket t-shirts around and their $10 work jeans are wardrobe staples for me. Grab a couple 6 packs of Gilden brand socks & underwear and a couple Ely Cattleman western shirts for dress, a pair of Wolverine Durashocks and you'll be ready for anything.

For those unfamiliar with Rural King here is their current ad. Fun store to shop, well behaved dogs are welcome, they always have free coffee and popcorn and often have special promotions that involve food or dogs. :)

  1. I love "Firearms News". Almost every issue they have one or two good historical articles.
  2. I'm told that Tractor Supply has good deals on handguns. Unfortunately, none of them within convenient driving distance of me sells firearms at all. When I was looking for a compact M1911, I went to the one in Elyria only to discover this. I eventually ended up buying my Citadel at Fin, Feather, Fur Outfitters.
EDIT: I do believe that subsequent comments correctly point out that it's Rural King, not Tractor Supply. However, there was no Rural King this side of Ravenna which carried real firearms.

^^Yeah that safe and price really yanks my chain. I paid a third more and got a third of that safe. It was one of my purchases that I should have had someone with me to stop me from making such a blunder.

I have never seen a TS that sold real hand guns. Maybe airsoft or bb guns/rifles but nothing more. I don't think I ever seen them carry ammo for sale.

I didn't have the time to walk the whole store but the only thing that resembled Firearms was a Daisy BB rifle and I believe it was a Crossman pellet rifle on display
I'm trying to figure now how comparable they are to Pet Smart with their pricing?
I was a convienant stop for me though! ;)

Can't speak to TS but there is a Rural King 1 1/2 miles from my daughters house. Every month or so, we meet there. The girls will do shopping stuff while Ray and I play at the gun counter. It's a fun store.

Dinner afterwards makes for a great family day.

50 years ago Tractor Supply was pretty much just that....parts and accessories for tractors and farm equipment. They did carry ammo and hunting knives. Today they're just another "we carry it all" store with a country theme.

I buy my feed and supplies form the Northeast Texas Farmers Co-Op in town. As a member of the Co-Op the prices beat Tractor Supply and the other farm and ranch stores. The Co-op belongs to the people who use it - the dairymen, the farmers, and the ranchers. The best part is that as a Co-Op member I receive a yearly dividend check that farther offsets my costs. If you have a farmer’s co-op in your area you may want to join.

We like that store too. I get my bird seed there.

They have a decent selection of case knifes that I drool over every month lol not bad prices

Around me we have Farm & Fleet and Big R stores. I really wish we had a Rural King closer. While Big R has a decent firearm section, their prices tend to run a little high. Rural King seems to have some good sales on firearms.

We've got a local Tractor Supply. Last time I was there about a year ago they didn't sell guns. But our Ace Hardware has started to sell ammo and stuff like cleaning supplies and targets. They never did before in the past 20 years I lived here.

With gun sales tanking I don't expect there to be a lot of retail sales expansion of guns and related items.

We have a bunch of Tractor Supplys in a 30 mile radius of my house. Never saw anything more than a BB gun there, but this is the peoples republic of NY. They do have a lot of rather interesting items for sale.

We sometimes buy pet food there. My wife checks out the ads specials of TS and a few pet stores. She gets coupons in the paper and off the internet and whoever has the best price on the food she wants to buy get our business. We have 3 very large Maine Coons and we buy a good amount of food when we hit those places. That is to include wet food, dry food and of course treats.:D

As I said their large Coons so the amount of litter bought is commensurate with their size and total of cats.:D

Note our 3 boys are a 100% indoor cats as we have plenty of critters up here that would play ALF if given the chance. In better weather we have a large screened in porch and our guys love it out there!

We do have a bunch of TS as I said above but a couple years ago a outfit called Running's opened up and they have everything TS has and a lot more. That store is at least 3 times as big as the TS stores. The do have a large gun (including hand gun) and ammo section and in that department their prices for the most part are not bad. Heck I was talking to the Gun department manager recently and he asked me if I was interested in a part time job. Thanks but no thanks.

Evert time I go to Running's I find things I'm interested in that I missed in previous visits.
