I went to the local gun show yesterday, hoping to trade my Henry pump action 22 for something a little more practical. My left shoulder is all ragged out from being dislocated a few times so, pumping the 22 was wearing my arm out far faster than it should.
I've had my eye on an M&P 15-22 for awhile but, I wasn't too crazy about the local gun shop prices.............most wanted $500 or more.
On more of a whim than anything else, about 2 hours before it was over, I decided to take my Henry with me and pop in to see what they had.

The very first table I came to, had a black M&P 15-22 w/o the compensator $399. I know they look better with it but, it's totally unnecessary on a 22LR and I didn't see one like that anyway.

They offered me a $300.00 trade on my Henry so, I took it and couldn't be happier!
I took it straight home to inspect it and make sure the barrel and action were clean, then grabbed a brick of ammo and headed out to the range.
A few clicks to the right and a few up, had it dead on target. Ran the target all the way to the back wall (roughly 27 yards) and cut a half dollar sized hole in the target with the factory sights.

I'll have to get some sort of scope for the 100 yard range though. These old eyes can't see the target that far away without one.

So anyway....................out of 300 rounds of Remington Thunderbolt, I only had one FTF and I think it was more an ammo issue than the gun itself. I've had that ammo FTF on other guns as well.

Congrats on your trade. Hopefully you don't have an addictive personality, but if that's the case we'll all look forward to seeing you at the meetings for those with 15/22 issues and no where to live because the wife kicked you out and you had to sell your truck and gave the dog away cause you couldn't feed it but you do have a 15/22 and you'll need to buy, aw, there I go again, oh well, see you at the meeting. Welcome to the fun.

I traded a 10-22 for my 15/22 a little over 5 years ago. Best trade I ever made. I now have a 15/22 pistol to go with the rifle and go through at least a brick every time I go out. I fall squarely in the addicted group and am happy there. That 10-22 was a nice accurate rifle but I don't miss it at all. Welcome.

You are going to like that 15-22!!! It will shoot just about any .22 LR ammo you load in the magazine. The 15-22 is just about the most fun you can have with a .22 LR rifle! Of course I may be biased. I have a 15-22... and I love it! Merry Christmas! Sincerely. brucev.

Congratulations on a good trade and I'm glad you enjoy your new toy. My 15-22 may be my favorite rifle. It's kind of like a lego building set... I can snap things on and off whenever I want and have fun doing it. The rifle shoots well, but seems to have a large appetite for ammunition! :-)

I have both the Henry pump and 15-22, would not trade either for a bucket of silver. I just bought a second 15-22 with flash hider, from PSA for $299 a better deal I have not seen. Like my Magpul edition this new 15-22 will gobble any old .22 round I choose to feed it. I understand your motivation for the trade but the Henry pump is little known and as nice a rifle as can be found. You won't regret your trade but I'll bet you miss the Henry.

I've had 3 10/22's over the years...........the original blued carbine, the SS carbine and the OE target rifle with the hammer forged bull barrel. Although I do like the rifle, I'm not big on the 10 round rotary magazine. I've had far too many of them fail and the BX-25 mags have had some feeding issues too.
The 15-22 25 round mags are cheaper and due to their design, much easier to clean and maintain. Plus, what's not to love about an AR style 22 rifle?

I was going to start a new thread, but saw yours and want to add my 15-22 trade story...

About 2 weeks ago I saw an add for a used M&P 15-22 for $330. I called and it was a local pawn shop. The guy said it was in above average condition but didn't have a box, or manual. He wouldn't take any money over the phone for it, but did agree to put it in the back room until I could swing buy. So I ran over as quick as I could after work (good thing I did cause the guy said he'd had a half dozen calls since I had called). It was a 15-22 with the flash suppressor, in excellent condition. After a little discussion, the guy knocked the price down from $330 to $290. Since it was Xmas time, I thought I ought to put $60 down - on layaway (I was worried what my wife would say if I walked in the door with it at this time of year).

3 days ago, I was clearing out a closet and found an accordion that I had bought about 15 years ago with the intention of learning out to play it, but it stayed in the closet for 15 years. I also located a low model Shure microphone and a Fender monitor speaker... so I called the Pawn shop and asked if they'd consider taking these 3 items on trade for the balance I owed on the 15-22... long story short... they did... they even paid for the cost of my background check... now, I know the value of those music items I sold and probably got about 80% of what I might have been able to sell them for... so I know I received decent trade-in for that stuff...

I walked out having only put out $60 cash (I confessed to my wife, and she said I did good - so, it passed the wife check)... I was really concerned that there may be a problem with it... but today I took it to the range and ran about 200 rounds of different 22LRs through it... No failure to feeds... Great accuracy (groups just as I would have expected based on the performance that I read about in the other 15-22 blogs), and I am a happy, new 15-22 owner... My M&P 15 Sport has a new little brother... it is fantastic that it functions just like it's big brother...

Awesome. An accordion for a 15-22... :-)

The guiding principle behind horse trading (or any other trading) is, if both parties are satisfied with the trade then the actual values involved are irrelevant. :D

Another benefit from making this trade... the sound the 15-22 makes when squeezing the trigger... sweet... I could never get that accordion to sound as good, no matter how many times I squeezed it... :-)

Great trade . . . you've no doubt heard the one about the accordion player who left his instrument on the back seat of his car only to return later to find that some one had broken out his rear window . . . and left another one beside it.

OMG after spending 10 consecutive years in Germany in the Army, i think my head would blow up if i heard another accordion! Someone beat me to the "15-22 sounds better than an accordion" snipe!!

Great trade, i've gotten some great deals on different items at pawn shops, too bad we only have one in my little town, weird since we have 2 large military bases!
great trade!

now where are my old harmonica's?????????????????????
