I'm new to this. I've sold plenty. That's easy. Wait until funds arrive to ship.

I have a trade offer on a gun I have for sale. What is standard procedure with long distance trades?

If you trust the guy, ship it. If you don't trust him, don't do the deal.

I mean, heck, if you wait for HIS gun to get to you before you ship, and he's waiting for YOUR gun to get to him before he ships, ain't neither one of you ever gonna get your new gun.

There won't be any waiting. Details will be spelled out before anything happens.

I just want to know what is "normal" so I'm not asking for something unreasonable.
Terms will be what's agreeable between the 2 parties, anyway.

Like the other two members have said.
Agree to ship on the same day if you trust
the dude. I've traded on here numerous
times with no problems at all. Each party
pays their own freight if it's an even swap.

If trust is an issue with you, long distance trading should be avoided. I have only done it a few times, but everything went smoothly. I just send my gun and wait for the trade to arrive.

Good deal. That's what I suspected. I appreciate everyone's input. I have no reason not to trust this member of this site. Just wanted to know what was fair.

Thanks again.

I actually prefer to trade since Washington charges sales tax on purchases. So, if I sell my gun and buy a new one, I lose 10% off the top.

I've done several trades, all with no real problems. One guy was a pest but that was all. Communication about delays (slow ffls, etc) are key.

THIS^^^^. I just ship my gun as promised by me, and wait for the trade to appear. Trust is all important, having a guy say "I shipped it" doesn't mean a thing, as anyone can say that.
I've never had a trade gone bad, but I've only traded with S&W forum members. Prefer to trade with SCWA members as I can get the big gorilla to pounce on em'. ;)

I don't see a "Trade" any different than a purchase. You are sending a stranger either a gun or money, same difference. I just make sure I seen plenty of pictures before committing to any trade, and agree before hand to a 3 day non-firing inspection on either end. Then try and find out the others trade/sale history.
