Just got my used but in great shape 629-4 RSR Trail Boss with Altamont wood combat grips that were an option on the trail boss, have yet to shoot this beast but here are some pics for you big bore snubby fans.

Came in Original box with all paperwork for under $650.

Did Altamont make those grips for you special order? This story sounds familiar, maybe I read one of your posts on another forum?

That looks sweet, and you're just a little ways from me. Good job finding a no-lock snubbie in the Bay Area!

S&W offered these grips as an option i would imagine an upgrade so they came from the factory to the dealer like this. This is the info i have researched from other threads.
Check out the thread AirCommando posted on his recent Trail Boss find, scroll down and find a picture of Benderx4 new trail boss it to comes with Altamont grips in some wild wood graining. Im sure Altamont would still make you a pair.

Those may well be Altamont grips and I am far from an authority on the subject, but they sure do look like Hogue's to me. But, still a great find and beautiful Smith.

Congrats - that thing is a beast! (In a gorgeous type of way.)

I thought I got a good deal on mine, but you stole yours - well done!

Your right about the grips being Hogue they have a H marked in the top right side interior. when i was doing my research i came across a thread that stated the grips were offered by S&W as an option and that they were Altamonts. Ill check with S&W to see if these were offered at one time or that the former owner just changed them out. Ive seen other wood grips on Trail boss such as the one pictured above. Thanks for pointing it out.

Trail Boss and a Big Ball O Flame

I have one I use as a woods gun. I put a set of Pachmayar Decelerator grips on it as I load it with 300 grain Castcores.

Great fun when you touch it off at dusk at the range.

Great Ball of Fire!
