The wife and me have had the knott tied for 36 years now and we went for a train ride in WV Saturday.

It was alot of fun, the tracks have been there for over 100 years along with one of the Engines.

Two of them pushed us to the top of Bald Nob, took four hours for the trip. It was nice and warm to, 51 with a 5mph wind. Had a great time.

It is a ride of a life time if you are up to it. The old Shay engined are a piece of art in themselfs, the three cylinders produce the power to turn all of the wheels on the engine and coal car. The last PIC is of some of the spare parts at hand :D.

Been there myself. My parents went this last fall. Just some some pictures they took (then) this weekend. Beautiful up there. The locos are unique as well. My Uncle loves it, even has a couple HO scale models of them.

Thanks, enjoyed the pics. Never grow tired of train threads!

We have two short line vintage train excursions here, but nothing like 4 hours. Wish we did!

Looks like a good time John! Thanks for the pics. I remember a ride I took on Amtrak many many years ago. We went from Chicago to Fort Lewis Washington to visit my brother. The scenery was breathtaking!

Great time! Interesting drive line on that Shay!
Do you have any direct contact info, Or a suggestion of a camp site or a cheap hotel?

Here it is: Cass Scenic Railroad State Park - A West Virginia State Park

There is a little place right at cass that has rooms, best is to contact Cass and get a number from them. They even have a eveing meal deal. I know you will enjoy it. Plus it is about a hour drive from Elkins, WV.
