I need a recommendation for a handgun trainer near or a bit east of New Bedford, Massachusetts - someone I can check out so I can feel comfortable enough to pass the name and contact info on to her.

My daughter, who lives there, has just completed her training to apply for her Massachusetts permit. Since it will be a few months before she will get her permit, she would like to find a reputable trainer near her. She has had basic firearms safety and marksmanship training from me, but it was years ago and I'm on the west coast and can't help her out now. She just wants to get some refresher training and practice, nothing too advanced for now.

Any help?

Thanks in advance.

I live two towns over . Here are my thoughts.
First, there are a couple of good gun clubs in the area: Rod and Gun of Newbedford and Tiverton (RI) Rod and gun come to mind. Both have some really good (and knowledgeable) members that would be happy to help her out . Some would be certified. Some would be just experienced and helpful members. Both clubs are within minutes of NB.
That said, Tiverton R&G has regularly scheduled hand gun training classes run by the Spartan Group. They also have a new, 24 7 keycard access state of the art indoor range. It's a bigger and more organized club than NB. (FWIW, I'm a member of both myself.)

Also, I believe a couple of the local gunshops could provide her with the name of certified local trainers for hire. ( That will likely use one of the ranges at these clubs.) Have her stop into Village Sports in Westport, MA for starters.
Beyond that, there is MASS Firearms School in Holiston MA that offers instruction but it's a good 1 hr + ride.

Lastly, Gun Owners Action League (GOAL) is the NRA equivalent in MA. A trip to their website / phonecall can get you the names of instructors.
Feel free to PM me for my email should you/she want more info on any of these resources. I'm local and always happy to help a new shooter.

I hear good things about Sig (Sauer) Academy in Exeter New Hampshire. It offers several women only classes. Only negative thing I've ever heard is that their classes can be a bit pricey.
Good Luck, Kevin
