I am a MO resident and I just discovered a MO gunshop that charges a $35.00 "transfer fee" even if you buy a gun there . Every other gunshop I've dealt with in MO only charges a transfer fee if you have a gun sent there from another vendor.
Is this happening other places?

Not around central North Carolina or south Florida, in my experience. I predict a policy change or a short existence for that gun shop! Are you certain that is the policy and not just on transfers?

I called them twice about it 2 weeks apart, spoke to 2 different people and got the same answer. Both times I asked if it applied to guns I bought from them - not shipped in, and both times they said yes. They offer low prices that are close to Buds but by the time I pay sales tax + $35.00 there is no reason to buy from them.
They also don't mention this on their website.

That's usually a selling point of the salesman in the local stores ..
no FFL fee ..

Haven't seen that yet here in Central Illinois ..

Then order a gun in and just pay their fee but not the sales tax and they'll lose out on the profit.

Sounds a lot like those car dealers with some preprinted dealer fee on the sales sticker - just another profit method.

The dealer who receives guns I buy online just charges ten dollars. I think that he should charge a little more for guns that he doesn't sell. Dealers around here charge nothing for guns bought from them,

Not in North Carolina. It looks like they are just making extra profit on gun sales.

Never heard of a transfer fee on a gun “bought from” a gun shop. It all comes down to the bottom line. If they are cheaper with that fee, buy there. If not have the gun shipped in.
I pay $20-25 for a transfer fee, depending which shop I use.

If there is a compelling reason why you need to use this particular gun shop to buy a gun, you might make the effort to drop by at a non-busy time and ask to speak with the manager or owner, to politely ask where this uncommon fee for purchases from them might come from.

Otherwise, $35 extra covers shipping costs for most online auctions.

I'd find a new gun shop . . .

I have never paid a transfer fee on a gun purchased directly from a local shop. I have never even heard of a shop doing this until now. Also, I will never pay a transfer fee at a shop that requires one for a direct purchase. I am fortunate to have options in my corner of Missouri.

That's a bad way to do business. It would be like going to Best Buy for a new tv and when they ring it up they tack on a $35 "processing fee" for selling it to you.

Not only would I not deal with that FFL but I'd spread the word and discourage others from shopping there as well.

I've never bought anything from them and probably never will. I was flabbergasted at the fee because none of the gun shops I've patronized in the St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield, Joplin, and Cape areas have ever charged that fee. I have even bought guns in KC Kansas and they transferred them to a shop in MO for free.

I normally look at the OTD price. If that $35.00 made it more than I think it's worth and they can't be talked down then I'm OTD. I have never heard of that before. Makes me wonder if the owner use to be with an airline.

I've never heard of it, and don't think I'd do business with a shop that had that policy. The cost of the transfer should be built into the cost of the gun, and it shouldn't be anywhere near $35.00. It should actually be $0.00.
