What do y'all use to transport your Revolvers to and from the range, and on long car rides?

It boggles my mind how shoddy the Blue S&W case is.

I really wish S&W would ship with a molded rubberized case like Dan Wesson uses, and Remington uses for their 1911's. They are super nice, I'd gladly pay S&W an extra $15 per gun if they shipped in a nicer case.

I use a 1450 Pelican Case. It will take a small padlock, so it's legal for transport here in Cali. It comes with foam, but my handguns all have Borestores, so 4 or 5 fill up the case pretty well. There are also smaller versions.

Pelican, Seahorse, and Plano. All are about the same quality, it just depends on the size you need and the options you want.

I'd be tinkled pink to even have gotten a plastic box, mine came in cardboard. They use to ship my model gun in the blue plastic and the gun 5 years ago when it came out was even over $100.00 dollars cheaper than it is now.

Glock sells their box's for $30 bucks a shot. If you think S&W blue is bad check out Beretta's blue, total crapola.

Anyway plenty of options out there for you depending on how much you want to spend. I've read some just use a igloo hand held or other type small cooler/lunck pail lined. Less conspicuous as to what you have.

I just put holster and gun in the zipper side compartments of my range bag. Maybe even just lay them on the truck seat. I live in the sticks and shoot at a place even more out of the way. There is no one to see or care what I have with me.

The plastic S&W case should be fine unless you're stacking heavy weight on top of it. A single case in a trunk shouldn't fall apart or disintegrate on the way to the rage. Even 3 or 4 case. I could transport my guns in a case rated for serious weight but there's nothing in my car that weights that much except for me and I'm not sitting on the case.

That being said you probably wouldn't like my answer if you think the factory plastic cases are bad. I use a book bag. A few guns go in one compartment and a few go in the other

I have a couple of the big Pelican double rifle cases. They are nearly indestructible! They are great to stuff 10-12 pistols in for airline travel as well.

I transport mine in a holster. If you don't have a concealed weapons permit, you need to get one. It makes life a whole lot simpler.

For travel to the range, I use whatever cheap plastic hard case or soft padded gun rug I have handy. Flying would be a different story, but riding to and from behind my truck seat isn't a big deal.

When I used to go to the range, I just used a soft padded case. Now I walk out the back door and shoot:)

Most of my revolvers reside in Bore Stores.
Just toss them into my range bag along with ammo:

Revolvers fitted with optics ride in S&W attache cases:

For pistols, I use Midway bags that carry the magazines too.

M&Ps get their own special ones:

As for all those factory boxes, they just take up space in the garage. Maybe its time to throw them all in the trash.

I just transport mine in my holster. I have a Doskosil case that I use for other times, though. Unless the Samsonite gorilla is going to be handling your gear you should be fine with just a basic hard shell, foam-lined case. Even a simple gun rug should be adequate just for range trips.

Now, if you're talking about particularly valuable revolvers, like rare collectibles, than stepping up to something like a good Pelican case for extra protection may be warranted.

I can't dead lift any weight anymore, so I put the pistols in gun rugs, and then in a range bag (backpack style, see Boyt or 5.11 for lots of options) so I can just slip it on my shoulder from a counter / truck deck.

At my range, if it comes in CC in a holster, it can not come out on the line. You can carry, but you can not unholster. CC guns get unloaded and put in a rug before entering if you want to shoot them.

A couple different things going on!

Most time going back and forth to the range I use my old from the 1960s Pachmyer 4 gun pistol box. Carries ammo, stapler, targets, a couple common tools, muffs and a small spotting scope. (I used to shoot Bulls eye till it bored the heck out of me and then went practical shooting) Going to a practical range or shoot I have a nice canvas lineman's bag that holds 3 guns & holsters and all that is needed for a decent time. More guns than that and I will use the pistol box as described above.

On long car rides my gun is on my person, and I normally only go to states that honor my various carry permits.

If I'm the only one who will handle the case, I use a Plano Gun Guard DLX hard case for range or road trips. I can make sure it is jently handled and laid flat so the guns don't shift around in the case. If I had to consign it to an airport baggage handler who will drop it from the cargo bay to the concrete runway, then absolutely Pelican.
