I have a Savage 24C, a 22/20 gauge with 20" barrels and an ammo trap in the butt. I've been carrying it for years in a Porter Cable Tiger Saw case. (Looks goofy but fits great!)

I was at a LGS last week and found a Rugar 10/22 take-down carry case. with a little measuring I figured it would work as a soft case for my 24C. Got it home and did the transfer. Barrels and action it their fitted pockets, cleaning supplies, scope, sling and ammo into the two large outside pockets.

Only one small problem: The 2.5" bright red Rugar emblem! It kind of destroys the idea of unobtrusive! My wife suggested a thread ripper and pull all the embroidery by hand. I declined. I went with black Sharpie. After 4 coats it was a dark maroon color. Much better, but still very noticeable. Number two son suggested a 5th coat after the solvents dried out for a few days. It is now much darker, but it is recognizable across a distance of 50 feet! So, my plan will be to sew a shoulder patch over it. The 9th Infantry Division patch would be the perfect size. But since I was never in the service I avoid the patches on my cloths, well as least since I quit playing "Army" in 4th grade.

I'm looking for tasteful and subdued suggestions from the good people here.

Ivan, search Amazon for morale patches. Many choices there. I got an assortment. The first one is my favorite, but maybe the second one would be the least obvious. As the third pic shows there's quite a selection. They're velcro, so if you glue a piece of it on the case, you can change patches depending on your mood.

An American flag patch should be pretty easy to find. I have the same bag for my camouflage Ruger 1022 take down in dessert tan color and I think it looks pretty cool the way it is and don't see a need to hide the emblem.

Something I read years ago, when fannypacks were all the rage. Get a sewn on brand name tag from a book bag or similar type bag and use that for a cover up.

Put this over them Ruger emblem.....

No one will even think 'gun', or gun guy, and most will avert their eyes to eliminate the risk of offending you.

"NOTE: PVC Ruger patch is removable for more discrete carry."

That may be true for the bag they are selling now, but the one I have has the embroidered Ruger emblem. You can also buy this same bag without the Ruger emblem.

I retired with several good coats with company embroidery. As wearing them caused the ire of almost anyone the utility served I wanted them gone. After several hours of embroidery picking I too went with sharpies. It has held up for several years now, though the coats are now regulated to crawling around, dirty job status.

I already have an assortment of ammo I carry in my truck. It's in an old Barbie lunchbox. Since the movie came out, I'll switch over to the "Transformer" lunch box. I wouldn't want to upset some 35 year old little girl!

All kinds of patches ("parches for backpacks") on Amazon. E.g.,

(I kinda wonder, though, how many people who would be frightened by a gun in a bag/case would recognize the Ruger emblem...)

Pulling the threads is easy. Probably do it in an hr. If not , I'd try some black dye or liquid shoe polish and a Qtip
